wtf? price of toys?
after seeing tycondrius excellent Kraken custom I went on a toy hunt today, first time in ages.
Hit all my usual hotspots and was shocked that most toys were £9. New spidey figs with af articulation at this price. wtf??
wanted a couple of cheap figs for some customs but at this price I'm out.
found some cheap spidey figs but of course the only fig I wanted wasn't there.
There are other figs on the market with advanced articulation/packaging (Ben 10) for half the price.
I've only been buying from Chinese Sellers lately but if this is the way of things the action figure market is dead.
I mean for 10 quid I can get 3 figs online.
Wtf???
online but 1 in the shops.
Etc??

Usual story here is about 15 bucks for any figure. Sometimes more. Sometimes nothing beats getting excited in the toy store when you find something awesome at a good price. The EF Herc's are about $75 but I just can't manage to want to spend that much on anything other than vintage AF.

Re: wtf? price of toys?
With certain ranges, I get the impression that, the manufacturers know adults are the main purchasers & price accordingly.
Collectors are demanding hyper articulation & detailing which cost money, add the sky rocketing cost of the raw materials, development & production process mean high prices are going to be inevitable.

Re: wtf? price of toys?
I agree t-shot.
I don't mind spending if a fig is worth it.
Just got a retaliation 3 pack firefly which cost about 15 quid inc postage from the states and while it's a chunk of change I think it's the coolest toy i've ever seen. Great sculpt, advanced articulation and a cool character.
Compare this with the new ultimate Spiderman figs for £9. Inc bus fare they work out roughly the same price. Bad sculpt (looks like a toy for pre-school) and 5 point articulation, there's no comparison. Even my son who loves spidey laughed at them.

Re: wtf? price of toys?
Had the same discussion with my brother the other day, the whole situation is a joke. And the assortments are generally crap as well. Take the Dark Knight Rises toy line, £13 a figure, 5 POA and there's about 8 Batman figures and 1 Bane figure and that's it. Unsurprisingly they haven't sold and are now on sale for £5 in Asda and still not selling. Thundercats were £9 or £10 and now they're £2 in The Entertainer near me and still not selling. Parents can't justify spending £10 on a figure that will probably break anyway and you'd need to buy more than 1 for any "play value". I'm surprised the TMNT are selling so well at that price point too but they seem to be flying off the shelves, probably because they are the big craze at the moment. Clone Wars figures are slightly more affordable at £8 and there's a good selection but they seem to peg warm a lot as well. It's no surprise Hasbro didn't bring out GI Joe figures over here when they can't shift Thor, Avengers figures or Marvel Universe figures. I'm interested in seeing how the new 5 POA Iron Man figures sell but I expect them to be sat on shelves for months too. £10 isn't pocket money, I used to be able to save up my pocket money for a couple of weeks and by an AF or Star Wars figure, these days I'd have to save for a month or 2.

Re: wtf? price of toys?
I still don't get how they put Batman toys in a toy shop when the movies are PG13 or more. If I like a figure I'll let it sit and then buy it when it gets marked down. I got Marion Ravenwood for $2 and MOC ROC Scarlett and Baroness for 75c. Its f*cking stupid and then Hasbro refuse to sell the figures here. I think someone there is smoking pot or something like it. I often buy a loose figure from Chine for 2 or 3 dollars delivered on evilbay.

The problem is greedy c*nts will never accept the blame for poor sales. They'll just blame kids for playing video games instead of toys.
Greedy f*cking wankers.

They are really taking the piss, price wise and selection wise.
The Star Wars section in Smyths is now mainly Angry Birds shite and a couple of Amidala figures.
