Yes there was. A Gollum created by some wizard to aid another red wizard called Sydney. It got crushed by a rockslide I think. Reread the trilogy a few months ago. Great stuff.

Jeez! Is that a computer generated image? That's superb! I once saw a mock up 'prototype' Mean Angel 6" figure at the first 2000AD con ten years ago. Never saw a final figure but I did by the Strontium Dog one that got released. My god that's a fantastic sculpt!

Outstanding work, but sadly I have to say it doesn't quite capture Mean for me. Same thing with the movie edition, he just looked menacing and lost all of the character's humour. He'd have better with a more "d'uh?" expression for 1 IMO.
