Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
Is it possible to download the coloured comics as CBR files (basically a RAR or ZIP archive containing JPEGs) rather than needing to view online with SimpleViewer, I remember this used to be possible, but I can't seem to find any links any more. I'd like to be able to read them while I'm on the train on my PDA and CBRs would make life easier.
Cheers,
Simon

Re: Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
the CBRs were removed because certain scruples-free bastards were downloading them and selling them, ISTR.
Re: Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
Hmm, that's bad form. Where were they trying to sell them, didn't people realise that this is an open/free project?
Re: Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
i believe Baron said something about them being sold on ebay
Re: Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
I remember that too. I think that the Baron was trying to look at ideas such as .pdf read-only password protection but I don't think even that will be enough if someone is determined to rip the files.
Re: Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
The same is true of the SimpleViewer flash app too though, it is possible (if a little inconvenient) to screengrab each page while it's being displayed and then generate a cbr/etc from that. The same would apply to pdfs, etc.
I'd have thought the best bet to prevent people selling the comics would be publicity.
Anyway not a major issue (the lack of cbr), keep up the good colouring work chaps!

Sorry for the delay in replying, but yes, everyone was right. The ones on ebay were being downloaded, having the BFTB credit page removed and then sold for a LOT of money. There's a certain wanker named T-K-421 who still sells my http://www.zoidstar.com scans to this day, he's made a tidy sum off my work.

There was just no way of securing the download files against tampering, sadly, so I settled for disabling right-click on the simpleviewer galleries and watermarking the 70% direct forum editions. I suppose you could Print Screen each page and edit them in Photoshop, but bear in mind the Comics archive currently stands at over 4700 images.
We do have high quality printed editions available...

bloody cheek ..glad he won't get hands on The Major is this Green Weasle ? or whatever he's called? The books will be the best way to read these , portable too .The Zoids site is great too btw remember reading that first strip(John Higgins colour WoW) in Secret Wars many moons ago..
Re: Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
Baron, can't you file a complaint against him for selling something that you have produced? And even if you can't do that, they must be copyrighted works anyway so I imagine he shouldn't be able to sell them legally without permission from the copyright holder (Marvel?).There's a certain wanker named T-K-421 who still sells my http://www.zoidstar.com scans to this day, he's made a tidy sum off my work.
I grabbed all of the cbrs that were available last year (or thereabouts), and am gradually working my way through them, bringing back good (old!) memories. Same goes for the Zoids comics, I missed some of them when I was a child so many thanks for scanning them and making them availablebut bear in mind the Comics archive currently stands at over 4700 images.

I'll have to take a look at that, thanks. We do have high quality printed editions available...
Re: Are there CBR downloads of coloured comics?
Ebay were spectacularly useless. I complained about the seller of the Action Force scans, but was told that as I was not the legitimate copyright holder, they couldn't do anything about my complaint.
So I took matters into my own hands, and started selling the scans myself to undercut him - I basically phrased my auction to mirror his and appear under the same search parameters, with an additional explanation of the circumstances, at a fraction of his price (ie cost).
Ebay then closed all of my accounts for violating copyright law! I couldn't believe it.
