Cheap Star Trek toys

Post by AnnieM »

Don't know of any of you have been buying the 6" figures from the latest Star Trek film, but Buyology in Bridgwater now has them priced down to £1.87 each - they've got Cadet Chekov, Cadet Mccoy, Kirk, Scotty, Nero, Original Spock and Spock. They've also got the smaller scale bridge playsets for a tenner (possibly smaller scale than 3.75" I think) and full size phaser pistols for £3.74. All these are made by Playmates Toy Co. There's also a huge range of Golden Compass action figures for £1.49 each. If anyone is interested in these at cost plus p&p let me know. The shop normally deals in bankrupt and end of line stock but is closing down in the next few weeks so everything's going cheap.

Them Golden Compass figures must've been a commercial failure - they've even reached the £1 shops in Barnsley!

Are there any online shots of the playset, does anyone know? Would it work for Space Force?

The articulation's sh*t on the Golden Compass figs - no real "play-value", more like plastic figurines. Same with the Narnia and Pirates of the Caribbean figures I saw there today.

I've got a feeling that the playset may be too small in scale - the figure that comes with it looks weeny. I'll try to find a pic

Here it is: http://www.entertainmentearth.com/prodi ... er=PL61901

it says it's 3.75", but honestly that Kirk looked so tiny...

I think the scale is good. I have a Uhura figure that is a Baroness custom and she just looks, well, a little bit dainty. So the playset would look okay I'd expect.

And I agree with the Golden Compass figs Annie - they are just like figurines. Perfect for what I wanted them for though, and came with a free beaver/monkey/big cat thing, which are causing hours of fun on the toy shelf! (well, minutes, but still, for 99p!)

the scale of the playsets is good - ive had my eye on the transporter set for a tenner and the figures look ok except if you take uhuras head off and try and put it on a baroness body. then it looks weird...

Two more 3 3/4" Star Trek figures for me & I'll have a complete set, our local Tesco's is knocking 'em out @ £1.49 each.

I think the main problem is, for toys, they look too similar to each other..you have to look very closely to tell the difference between @ least 3 of the main crew. If I recall correctly the figures from the 1st motion picture bombed too, Westgate House (Peterborough's large Co-Op dept' store) couldn't shift the figures for love or money back in the early 80's.

A lot of our local discount stores have loads of unsold "Old Indy" figures left on the selves, as well as massively discounted Chronicles of Narnia figures too.

The best buy for me so far this year's been the Torchwood 6" figures @ £1.99 each, just series 1 so far..but I'm keeping a look out for series 2 as I like the look of that geezer from Buffy's character.
More news, as its made, from new Action Force!
