Ending an auction before time?

Post by stkhlmdk »

Hi, does anyone know if there is a "penalty" for ending an auction too soon on "Fee-bay"? I was sitting here waiting for this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT puppy to end and was ready to offer $800 but then the seller suddenly ended it 3 hours sooner than scheduled?!?! WTF  Someone is the lucky winner of a gem of an item for a pathetic low price and it wasnt me.....cr@p.
Best Regards

there isnt a penalty - you can end early and keep bids or cancel all bids - i doubt the seller has sold at that price though, i used to get lots of people asking me to end early with them as high bidder and offering to send x amount...

it's a bit sneaky though, i think once it's up for auction it should stay there untill the bitter end,

I always think it's safe to say when an auction gets ended early there's a bit of behind the scenes negotiations gone on - an offer accepted to reduce ebay end of auction % etc. Otherwise someone ending early is crazy on their part, as most auctions soar in the final seconds as the snipes get fired in.

I also sent a message to the seller afterwards and told him that I was about to place a bid twice the amount currently on bid but hoped that the winner would enjoy this wonderfull piece at such a low price :-D

Most likely the seller sold it for more off-the-books, I imagine the figure we're seeing is the bidding as it stood.

But no, sellers are well within their rights to kill an auction at any time.

I always find it a little fishy if a seller stops an auction just like that. Like said before: he prolly got a good offer and took it off the Bay to save on selling fees.

Too soothen your pain a little: seller states that he ships to USA only.

Well, I have a friend in Chicago who helps me with all these US auctions ;-) I have two Terror Dromes awaiting shipment to DK soon.
