Why?Why?Why?

Post by S.A.S.Sparrowhawk »

Back when Bryan Singer brought X-Men to the big screen one of the criticisms was why have they changed from the original uniforms? But i could understand that as this was a modern movie where spandex was a thing of the 60's & 70's. But in the world of Joe, camoflage uniforms for a military unit is something that has never changed since WWII. You just have to look at the original Joes, they wore camoflage uniforms, carried handguns in drop-down holsters and even the helmets they wore are still in service now! At least Baroness and Storm Shadow look like themselves and not some X-Men wannabes.

I think the biggest mistake/c*ck up was not making the film with a 80's feel, that would've created an awesome atmosphere especially since the film is meant to be a "beginning" chapter.

I haven't seen GI Joe: ROC yet. Mostly because the trailer looked like every other pile of sh*t out nowadays, but secondly because I refuse to pay £7.50 to sit in a cinema listening to chavs talk on their mobiles.

Anyway, I understand your frustration Mr Sparrowhawk, but hey, they've always cocked about with characters and stories in Hollywood. It's what they do.

Is it out on DVD yet?

History repeating...

I fully agree that this movie is a lot of pish, but to call it a c*ck up or mistake is not true. It is a pretty decent action movie that fits today's time. We live today and today's kids don't want an eighties atmosphere, they want a hailstorm of over the top CGI effects and Dragon Ball Z super hero crap. That calls for a new type of Joe, a Joe we (old geezers) can hardly identify ourselfves with.

In the eighties old geezers were complaining that our heroes looked nothing like John Wayne no more. So, like I wrote on top, it's history repeating.

It's G.I. Joe enough for me. There are some departures from the source material as in every adaption, but they are not so hugetures as in, let's say, Batman Returns.

like the X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic 4, Transformers, Batman and Daredevil movies it's a new continuity with a new take on the classic ideas. remember that and you might enjoy it more.

forget everything you know about g.i. joe & judge it in it's own right. personally i feel battman returns stays truer to the original ideas then this did! the only thing this really has in common with g.i. joe is the names & baroness' uniform!
judge it for what it is, an action movie aimed @ kids. i realise they needed to bring it into the modern age, but i always thought cobra commander looks really menacing with his hood & now he's a mad scientist with a stupid plastic mask.

Are we confusing Batman Returns with Batman Begins? Because the whole point of the movie franchise restart was to make them more faithful to the comics. Batman Returns is the follow-up to batman with Dnany DeVito as the Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman.
