Storm Shadow appreciation society

Gotta say I believe Storm Shadow was by far and away the most superior of the Cobra figures, maybe even of all the Action Force. Why did Hasbro see fit to desecrate him in such a dreadful manner over the years to come...Camouflage?...Red face?...Skirt?....no, no ,no, you should of just let him be! The same could also be said of many other Action For...sorry, GI Joe figures. Just take a look at Cobra Commander...he looks like he's just dried his hair and sort of left the towel there. Does anyone else think that classic AF/ Cobra figures have been desecrated in a similar fashion?

I for one am a fan of the old style mold figures. These new figures that are completely new molds leave me wanting something more. I don't mind so much the repaints of the old molds. But they went a little overboard at first with all the repaints with people like Mirage and Big Ben. It just didn't seem right to get the same figures repainted again so soon in their rerelease.

Now that's sweet! By the way, hold onto that version of Cobra Commander. I saw it only once in Toys R' Us, and I have never seen it again. All the cool stuff always flies off of the shelves here in Ohio.

EXTREMELY BAD NEWS

Post by jamarmiller »

Rockhammer wrote:Well, it's official. I asked the DDP crew during the Joe convention in Atlanta, and they confirmed that Storm Shadow #7 will be the last issue. They said it wasn't being cancelled because of sales, but because of a licensing/business decision not up to them (which I'm pretty sure meant this was done at Hasbro's request). .
okay so lets say it wasnt being cancelled because of sales, Since larry said it I buy it, with grain of salt but here is my problem with this explanation........................................................

If larrys book wasnt being cancelled because of sales then it must have been enough for DDP to continue to put out the book, and if that is true then WHY doesnt LARRY Do another ongoing JOE related book for DDP ?

According to DDP Larry was offered several options and he choosed SS, now that he cant do it, why doesnt DDP go back and say okay here are the other options which one do you want to do now?

It doesnt make sence to me really and so I am having a hard time believing this

also if Hasbro wants Storm Shadow to be a Bad guy then why dont they just do something similar with Storm Shadow like they did with Alexander and James DESTRO Mcullen ??

I dont mean have a son or anything but how about.............................

Azaki Suromo from the OLD UK Action Force Comics coming into play, Stormy retires to rebuild the ninja clan but Azaki Suromo takes his name and his original ( or updated ) uniform/outfit and also assumes the name of STORM SHADOW

now we have a truly BAD/EVIL storm Shadow ( and trust me if you havent read the STORM SHADOW of the BAF UK comics then your missing a truly evil Storm Shadow ) and problem fixed

I can guarantee you the people who think of SS as being evil / a cobra, dont know his name is Tommy Arashikage and it wouldnt make a differece to them if his name now was AZAKI SUROMO at all !

Plus now we have Tommy being hunted down by all his old friends thinking hes gone back to COBRA, and he has to prove himself to everyone all over again while everyone is trying to kill him!

its taking his story too and making him ( again ) against the JOES so it works on two ends

eventually a showdown between the two Storm Shadows will come and if done right this could work on many many levels

Storm Shadow ( azaki suromo ) is a COBRA and evil
Storm Shadow ( Tommy ) must fight the other JOES to get away and prove himself

the more and more I think about it, I just dont buy the whole cancellation thing isnt because of sales

it just doesnt add up to me at all

I think you're on your own trying to link Azuki Surumo to the GO Joe universe, man.

I assume that Larry is Larry Hama? I also find it unlikely that he would start a comic book without a written contract. If they've pulled the rug out from under him he should fight back. I hate unfinished work.

er.... who is Rockhammer??

??
LOL your right, I am! I am just trying to offer alternatives to what they are doing now that would include nice nods to the BAF comics we all know and love here

yep that is right!

Ya its really wierd, the sales were decent for DDP almost 85-90 percent of the sales of the main book which for a secondary title is very good and after 7 issues of hasbro saying OKAY they now say finish the story by issue 7 and stop the series all together. So the story will at least be finished but Larry Hama and DDP wont fight continuing the series because ( and here is the only good news ) Larry is indeed writting new comics for Hasbro directly for the new comic packs that will be coming out and the new issues actually fall in between issues of the OLD marvel US comics

Jamar... I completely dig that idea. Maybe even make it look like Azaki kills Tommy to take up his mantle, or takes him captive... we could see a storyline that plays itself out over 25-40 issues, easy.
Thanks and Ya your Exactly right about having it run 25-40 issues easy ! for sure! and having Azaki Suromo appear to kill Tommy or take him captive at first would be a pretty cool start and make it easier to explain why Tommy cant explain himself at first to the world thus making it harder for him to do so when he does come back to clear his name

it just works on so many levels

as I said above Tommy will be fighting the joes who thinks hes gone back to Cobra, just so he can clear his name

while we have Azaki Suromo really doing bad things making Tommy/storm Shadow look even worse

IMVHO if hasbro cancelled the book because of those reasons, then DDP should have offered this scenario to continue the book with Larry Still on it.
