X-Men Origins: Wolverine review: SPOILERS!!!

Post by Sundance »

Wow. That was awesome. I loved it. Really good telling of Wolverine's origins. Good use of the existing X-movies mythos, with the appearance of teen Cyclops and a younger Xavier, but also good universe-building with the addition of character like Gambit (who thankfully lack the comics version's gumbo-thick accent), Wade Wilson and Blob.

The acting was good, the plot was good and the direction was also good for a guy who's last movie was some African indie flick.

I'm also convinced Weapon XI and Wade Wilson are not the same character. For one, they're played by different actors. and XI is a cyborg.

8.5/10

really, 8.5?
everyone has their own opinion, i just feel for the terrible use of the existing storyline it should score lower! it would be like making an AF film but saying "hey, we dont really like the black major, lets change him so he is unrecognisable to any true fans"
i actually missed gambits accent! i know it's really annoying, but you kinda expect it!
my mine gripes were: wolverine was portraid as a nice guy, he didnt really do much wrong when the whole point is he is trying to make up for a terrible past life, & the fact that deadpool is the most dissapointing charactor ever in any film ever made in the history of all time.

typical for a film today, im still amazed watchmen wasnt crap!
i enjoyed the 1st 20 min or so, intro credits are great. as far as im concerned, wade is in this briefly but deadpool isnt.
watch it, then tell me what wolverine did that was so terrible (apart from when very young) that he has to make up for (which is the whole point of his character!)
completely ignore wolverines actual origin story, try to forget about deadpool & i guess it's passable.
just watched crank 2, loved it! total crap but thats the point!

i really don't get where you're coming from about this 'terrible past he must atone for' guff.

as far as i'm concerned Wolverine's character is that he's a artistic soul with the heart of a warrior and the body of an animal. he kills people and busts them up but doesn't LIKE doing it, he's just good at it.

which the movie depicted.

NO!!!! was basically used in weapon x project as an assassin, butchered lots of people, brainwashed, had no morals & so he is going out of his way to atone for his sins! they even hint upon this in the earlier films (cant remember which one) when he talks to captain pickard!
personally think the "artistic soul, heart of a warrior" is guff!
one thing you cant argue is unbelievably sh*t about this film...... DEADPOOL! i thought he was "the merc with the mouth" not "the merc with no mouth" ?! this point alone makes it a bad film, give me one good reason for trashing a character like this?
like you said before, everyone arsshole has an opinion, but i have a valid point here!
personally i didnt see the point of scott summers, except it was the only way to have him in another film after killing him off stupidly in 3! i heard the director from the x men films turned this down because he would only do it if it could have an 18 cert, i think that would have been better but obviously realise why marvel wouldnt want that!

saw a pic online of a wolverine tattoo the other day, to be honest it was pretty crap, but the main problem was..... wolverine had 4 claws on each hand! DOH!

I enjoyed it, it was two hours to escape the outside world. Thought it linked the films together well. I never really think too deep about the film as long as it entertains me.

There was a young lad in with his mum in the one I went to, there were a few bits that I thought might have scared the lad.
When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?
