It is small room, we have decorated it, have a few power points available and plenty of good natural light (which does not show in the photo's)
The constraints, other than size, include that I need to get a desk in there for the desktop PC to work on and ideally a bit of floorspace to roll out the 'roll out bed' for guests.
I collect Star Wars vintage, some modern, Kubricks, Galactic Heroes and then also have small Action Force & Starcom collections, as well as the odd other toyline or so. Chloe collects My Little Pony, She-ra and vinyl toys too, so some space has to be kept free to account for her too.
Ideally we want them behind glass to save the dusting and also my wolverine of a nephew who loves Star Wars.

so the room is a shoebox, and to give some idea of context of scale, I pulled out the carded vintage figures and pretty much took up a 1/3 of the room, so there is no chance of displaying these all, and would have to be 3,4, maybe 5 deep.

The Star Wars stuff will be on rotation as there simply isn't enough space, ie, one month vintage, next month Kubricks etc.
I had my mind set on two oak display cabinets, which were lovely and good solid wood, but really expensive and due to the size limited what could be done and where they could fit in the room. My friend reccomended IKEA Billy cases, which although is a low cost display option, the effect he achieved was brilliant, and compact and allows for a flexible system to display a wide range of items, which is good for us..

Parts can be replaced with glass shelves and glass doors added, so looks like it ticks the boxes.
The nearest IKEA is a zillion miles away, but one is opening 20 odd miles away in a few months, so am planning to get a look look and then also incoporate a desk for the PC near the window. I'll need space for reference books etc, so hopefully those two can be combined.
Has anyone else been given the chance to use a room for the purposes of their collection and then found it's really difficult and not as straight forward as you hoped?
If anyone has any good suggestions, I'm all ears, but will use the thread a s a work in progress, so to speak

Dave.
