Any of you guys actually watch Lost? I keep considering it on DVD, but not yet given in, and I saw an advert on Sky last night saying "only 34 more episodes to the end", which made me think:

(a) bizarre marketing tactic - "not long now until it's over" and

(b) that's still sh*t loads of episodes still! It's like saying midway through series 7 of "24" - "not long now until the end of Season 8" - it's over six months from being finished for crying out loud.

sorry not a lost fan but strange giving it a finish date weird way to market it unless there bored of making it give me Heroes or the sarah connor chronicles any day

lost is ok, i think that due to the shows lack of answers, you find yourself speculating on why, how, who all the time. Quite a few people have gotten bored with the whole thing, the idea of telling the fans it's end date is so that they know all there questions will soon be answered.

lost is good tv and the last couple of seasons have been great.
i think the first 2 seasons are pretty redundant tho.
well worth a watch and if they answer most of the questions posed it will be a great show.

Lost and Dexter are must-see. Completely innovative and utterly unpredictable, I recommend them both. Haunting, captivating, downright terrifying and all set in a tropical paradise, with a stupendously talented cast.

The end-date refers to the fact that they have been accused of "winging it" with the script. People got hooked, and then panicked that it's going to end as a mystery with unanswered questions, some even threatened to boycott it. People can be downright stupid at times.

The show was orginally commissioned as five 24-episode series. For some reason there was an extra one in series 1, so there are 23 in series 3. Then the Writer's Strike meant that series 4 was only 14 episodes long, so the remaining 34 episodes have been split over 2 17-episode seasons.

It's the writers' way of showing that they have an endgame in mind, to appease the ridiculous panic and outrage. Personally I don't care if it stays mysterious, it's all about the journey, not the destination, and I love the way it's done.

I recommend you lock yourself in a dark room will the complete set and don't post here again until you're up to speed, SteveD. Series 5 starts tonight!

I got half way through Season 3 then missed loads.

I picked up Season 3 box set in the US for just $15!!!! However so much time had past that Chloe and I decided to start from scratch. We're now about half way through season 2, up to the point where Eko finds his brother.

Watching it through again has been good fun though, and if anything allows you to get more into it as you pick up more on the cameo's etc.

I was thinking about Sky+ing the new series, but we still have a fair way to go that it would have clogged up and finished by the time we got there

I've got all of the Clone Wars to watch before I can even start with anything new though. Oh, and the last 5 episodes of Deadwood Season 3. Then I'll lock myself in a darkened room...

I managed the end of Season 2 before I gave up on it. I don't mind long stories, but felt there was no direction, the suspense (if any) was sparse and of the "warning Will Robinson" variety. That was good in the 60's, but not so much nowadays. Twas a tad predictable too. Knowing my luck it picked up after I stopped watching.....

In actual fact, the opening five minutes of season three is a masterstroke, they turn everything on it's head and set the scene for the rest of the series in one move LOL
