Custom Hardcovers

Post by nacho »

Hi everyone! I'm a noob when it comes to non-US GIJoe comics, but I'm slowly learning, thanks mostly to this site and Jamar Miller. I've been a lurker for a few months, and I've ordered the first two HCs of the material you guys are beautifully coloring. Jamar encouraged me to join BFTB, so here I am.

I've been working on some custom Joe HCs of my own, and I thought I would share some pics of my latest additions (especially the European Mission and Action Force volumes). Enjoy!

Wow! Welcome to the forum.

Are these the original comics in hardback slipcases, or are they fully-bound editions?

Thanks! Aside from the cost of collecting all the issues, each volume costs $15USD to bind, and the optional cover and spine stamps are about $5 each. By the time I ship them to and from the bindery, I've got another $5 each in them. So these come to about $30USD each by the time you're completely finished.

They have lots of a-la-cart options to the binding too (tail lines, panel lines, bookmarkers, custom font work, etc.) But the bare bones cost is $15USD plus shipping, not bad at all.

As for the process, they actually trim the books on all edges about 1/8th of an inch (don't cringe, they don't get into the artwork or text). They trim the spine enough to get the staples out, and they trim the edges just enough to make them exactly even like any other hardbound book. Then the issues are actually sewn together and bound. It's very professional looking and very sturdy. Depending on how many volumes you send in at once and how busy they are (binding comics is only a small portion of their business), turnaround times are anywhere from 4-8 weeks.

You can check out the binding house's site. They are located in Texas, but I think they'll bind for anyone/anywhere (if you're willing to pay the postage) http://www.librarybinding.com

you can see my other projects and those of many other people here: http://www.thecomicforums.com/forum2//i ... pic=113911

Cheers!

Just wanted to let interested parties know, I've created a new site to showcase all the bound comics I've had done. Of interest to the BFTB comics-loving crowd will be the Joe section where I've posted all the pics and the maps to each volume. Cheers.
