Who's your Favourite Action Force Artist?

Post by fuzzchile »

Both Action Force comics had some really great artists working on them.I'd have to say Geoff Campion was my fave working on The Battle Stories closely followed by Vanyo and John Cooper(but I preferred him doing Johnny Red) As for Marvel Geoff Senior ruled for me.. nobody on earth can draw action like him Kev Hopgood was cool too..So :vulture: Which artists do you think drew The Action Force stories the best?

It's interesting because both titles had a similar pairing, Battle had the detailed and accurate Vanyo, and the dark and moody Cooper, and then MUK had the detailed and accurate Hopgood, and the dark and moody Senior.

If you'd have asked me as a kid I would have said Vanyo and Hopgood, as I was in love with the toys and wanted the strips to be as accurate as humanly possible. But now, as a seasoned comics reader with 20 years of hindsight I choose Cooper and Senior for their emotional content. If we're talking Johnny Red though, Joe Colquhoun wins hands down as the best war comics artist. He has (had) feel and detail combined.

On the lower tier, R. Turner (Sea Fury, Death Castle) was pretty good, and J. Watson (Kraken) was great. I never liked J. Bleach though (Arctic Terror), and I find Carmona (The Ultimate Crime) a bit stilited. To be honest I find Campion solid enough, but lacking any real spark. I'd have to go through the MUK comics for the other artists, but I do recall liking the artist from The Cold Zone. Robin Smith, again, solid enough but his figures seemed stilted, and lacked any real action.

We should make this thread into a poll!

Seems like a good idea. Perhaps a poll for best script writer too I'd say Gerry Finlay Day , good ideas decent scripts not too over simple found some of J Nichols stories a little bit too simple for my tastes(even when I was 12 lol) but your certainly right about Joe Colquhoun ..best artist ever.. If Battle went on printing Action Force stories instead of Storm(cough*) Force I wonder if Joe would of worked on an Action Force script(well one can dream :) ) :laser:

Yeah, Vanyo's Baroness is totally mean, Cooper never got her to jut her jaw the same way. Another thing always used to irk me about Cooper is that all of his characters have got fat asses! But his Gung-Ho strip in the pouring rain is outstanding.
