Red Laser fakes or factory paint-jobs?

Post by Ironhide »

Hello everyone,

I have 5 Red Lasers. I am 100% sure I bought each of them in my home town in the toy store and each of them came in Action Force packaging of some sort - either as separate figure or part of a 4-in-1.

When I made my collection list, at first I didn't even notice that the original has a skull and crossbones on the helmet and mine did not. Then when I did, it looked as if I had the German release.

But now I'm not so sure anymore. When I was checking them for paint wear to rank them in quality for my list, I noticed each actually *does* have a skull and crossbones. But they are painted over!

Now I know it is impossible to prove this if nobody has the same figure, but I really did not do this. I bought them like this. Has anyone ever heard of this and seen them like that?

I've included one picture of each Red Laser helmet. It's not obvious in every picture, but they are all the same.

Hi Ironhide

They're genuine, :AFLogo: insignias are notoriously delicate.
More news, as its made, from new Action Force!

Hi Thundershot,

Thanks for your reply! Do you know what happened then? Were the skull and crossbones there but they just faded or wore off to this? And does this mean they are not rare German versions but general ones? I ask because I already had some interest for them, but they may not be looking for the not-German one.

You can clearly see the fade of the Skull and Crossbones so they are UK and not German for sure.
I only know of three Genuine Red Laser German figures which are like Rocking Horse Pooh.

I'd have to agree with wolfie and ed. They are still good figures to have though, ironhide.

Rather hard to tell. The German version is weird - it simply had an extra black triangle printed over the skull & crossbones to cover it up. So you can see the skull under it usually, but covered up.

I never realised this but Steve is correct, I know mine is 100% authentic and on inspection the insignia although hard to see is there underneath and can be seen in good light. Here is a photo of mine which the camera will not pick up the insignia but can just about be seen in hand.

If there is a second printed triangle printed over the top then is the second triangle layer visible too?

It basically looks like a glaze over the original.
