I've heard its sh*t and can't quite bring myself to watch it. The original was a masterpiece and remaking it just makes me think of The Day the Earth stood still, Star Trek and Planet of the Apes

I'll be honest I've never heard of the original but the trailer for the new one looks sh*t.

Red Dawn is a classic. Resistance fighters in North America after the Cubans and Soviets invade. Acting isn't the greatest but the story carries it, as does the fact that (unlike top gun) they used Russian hardware. If you liked Battle stories you will love Red Dawn.

From my point of view when I saw it in the 80's it was brilliant because I could easily relate to the main characters. Kid hunters who went bush and decided, reluctantly, to fight back. My son sees it the same way as I am teaching him survival skills too. Not that he should ever need them for anything more than recreation. Also, in the original the main character wasn't a Marine like the new one. Pffft, remakes.

From what I could see in the trailer the new threat seems to be North Korea. Totally unrealistic on that point but maybe inspired by the game Homefront? To be honest I don't mind if its a mindless action film as long as its watchable. I suppose it'll be better in one respect that there's plenty of Eastern bloc mliltary equipment floating around the US rather than mocking up western stuff.
Oh and I thought Star Trek was great Chopper :)
