Good choice Baron I agree, Gore V would have done a decent job but I think he's in Disney's bad books. Rango didn't do as well as hoped afaik and he's spunked a ton of money on the new Lone Ranger film, something like $30million over budget.

I wasn't keen on the idea of Star Trek until I watched it but JJ doing Star Wars I don't think would work.

I must admit I found it enjoyable too..I'd heard so much bad about it beforehand it almost put me off seeing it.

I guess with George's guiding hand, as a creative consultant, they'll be fairly consistant with with the rest of the series..& remember, he didn't actually direct Empire or Jedi himself & they turned out O.K.

But Super-8 was great.

One film does not a director make. The whole dodgy camera thing is well past use by IMHO. Great for TV shows like Firefly (used sparingly) but sh*t for motion picture extravaganza's. Its like pop music, same sh*t because every other knob did it too. Why the hell can't they do something original? The new SW film could have a lot of potential, but, its even more important to get it right than Star Trek. I agree about the prequels too, fine IMHO. Not the OT, but fine.

If someone screws up Star Wars it could be the end of their career, unlike GL. The creator can er, the disciple cannot.

My best hope is that we get some interesting and desirable new Star Wars toys out of all of this!! That was my eventual take on the prequels. I wasn't mad keen on the pacing of the story, or the changes made to established character traits (R2D2 with rocket boosters - really?) but I was blown away with some of the ships, costumes, planet landscapes and overall character design.
I think the production designers, conceptual artists and art departments were top notch and I really hope their creativity can be channelled in a masterful way this time around :)

Agreed Shauny, I saw an exhibition in London many years ago about the creature creators at Lucasfilm and their work is top notch. The amount of research and backstory and biology they put in to the creatures and alien characters to make them realistic is mind-blowing. Add on another 10+ years of CGI improvements and the films will be visually stunning. I'd also say it's almost definite the new movies will be shot in 3D and Imax too, whether JJ wants to do it or not.

Right now Abrams is reading this with a glint in his eye
We look forward to episodes 7, 8, and 9 to see just how much of this wisdom Solo can gain.
