A small part of me still feels guilty for laughing when I heard the news of what had happened to him..but a bigger part thinks "F&@k him" for putting a lot of people though that as kids, is that wrong of me???
no i wouldn't say so. He turned out the way he did because he was an asshole and probably realised this and felt guilty because of his own failures.

I remembered another instance from being a kid.
I asked for a Blowtorch figure but was told I would have to wait until the weekend, I can't remember why I was getting a figure it wasn't a birthday or Christmas, anyway I remember pouring over the details to my Dad. "It's a yellow figure, but his armour stuff is red...will you remember that Dad?...And his gun is green...will you remember that Dad?.....Oh and he has a helmet that's yellow too....will you remember that Dad? WHAT A LITTLE PAIN IN THE ARSE I WAS!! Anyway, I went to school for the day and when I got in Dad said "Quick, there's something on the telly!" I rushed into the lounge to see the TV switched off, but a Blowtorch figure propped up on top of the set! Brilliant! I was so grateful. I really loved that figure.

You just reminded me of one of my happiest memories, my dad and I were shopping for a carpet or something equally boring and to my complete astonishment I found a toy section! Not only that, they had the brand new range of Zoids, I had no idea they were out, they hadn't even been advertised in the comic yet!
So I stared at them for like fifteen minutes while my dad did his shopping, then he came to get me and I looked up at him to say "Wow! Look!" and he just said "Do you want them?" My jaw hit the floor, there was no birthday or event for months, so I eyed them up and went back and forth, and could not decide between Zore and Hellcat. I looked up again and asked "can I have two?"
He laughed and said "I meant, do you want all of them?"
BEST. DAY. EVER.

best dad.
i usually had to wait for birthdays or christmas for more than one toy at a time if it was expensive.
my 8th or 9th birthday i wanted either the WHALE or the HAVOC and had a tough time choosing, before finally going for the HAVOC...

I had Red Scavenger and Znake. They were actively encouraged by my mother, who loved them!
She also bought me some small Transformers toys, one of which I found in a box with some Sylvanian Families when we moved house the other week, alongside my Casio PT1 monotone keyboard

Dads are indeed cool. Mine took me to a hobby shop to let me pick out my first carriage for the train set. He also got me a die-cast X-wing fighter. Oh, I miss that fighter.
My kids and I probably spend too much time in the toy store to make it memorable now. Mind you, my son goes ape when a parcel arrives and he oft pinches my AF's. He also has the Millennium Falcon, X-wing, Slave 1, Republic Gunship, Jedi Starfighter and Speeder bike in his cupboard. Boy, I wish I was 7 again. I took my daughter out to get a couple of Star Wars figures, as it was only fair. She never lets her brother forget who owns the Princess and Obi-wan.
The Baron is making me paranoid, I keep re-reading my posts...... damned spelling Baron.

My Mum was no slouch either to be honest. She has always been a fine purveyor of Jumble Sales and Charity Shops for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid she turned up one day with a second hand Palitoy carboard Action Force base and a Casdon Assault Course! No idea what she spent in the charity shop or what it would equate to now. In fact, it is only in recent years that I've been able to identify what each of them was. Both were incomplete and already quite knackered. They couldn't have been more than a few years old at that point, but again, I was one of the lucky kids that got a lot of the toys they wanted.

My dad was ace when it came to toys - he is (amongst other things, including being the most eccentric man in Somerset) an excellent "cardboard engineer" and used to make no end of houses, boats, shop counters etc for my Sylvanian Families

Its a Dad's job to be resourceful.

One reason I wound up here was because I was fixing the kids toys so much. I hate throwing out good toys.

Really got to take my hat off to me mum, she's knows (or used to) all the classic Star Wars figures by name, a bit like AnnieM is with
Mum & my Grandmother are the ones who gave me a true life long love of toys..
