I totally agree that there are a lot of sellers out there who just aim to get extra profit from postage and claim that it includes their time, petrol to get to the post office and so on. When I sell on eBay my aim is to charge roughly what it costs to send with the few pence over being rounding to cover a little tape (and I do just mean rounding of a few pence). When I have found postage was less than I estimated I always send a refund to the buyer.

Of course, eBay have tried to get over the problem by previously creating categories where you can only offer free postage (CDs and DVDs were in this category until recently). There was backlash from small sellers and so they have now set a maximum postage, for example in books I think it is £2.75, which probably doesn't cover the sale of some hardbacks. In the toys area I don't think there is a maximum and perhaps there should be.

The best policy is simply to avoid sellers that charge too much for postage and support genuinely good sellers. Eventually those that charge too much will have to come in to line if their sales fall. Shame all buyers don't see this and freeze out the bad guys, but then the world generally doesn't do that sort of group show of force these days.

Bang on RB, if the postage is too high then screw em. TBH I have been getting most of my kit lately from here or AMHQ. Postage is not bollocksed up that way. Also because I am now firmly in vehicle territory postage is killer any way. The guy I get most of my Joe parts from on ebay USA usually charges 3-5 bucks for a wee baggie of limbs. Pretty reasonable.

From my point of view, freight is usually the governing factor, I don't mind paying a couple of bucks extra if the seller is good and the price is right.

Got to say that at the other extreme some sellers are excellent with postage.

There's one in the UK at the moment who's somehow managing to get an ATC to me for 15 quid postage (with Blades sneaking a jolly inside) and has just spontaneously refunded me a couple of quid for the already reasonable postage on a Red Wolf that I won a week later. I doubt I could get it down to even twice that posting in the other direction - Canada Post is horribly expensive. A shame I haven't found the seller's name on the BFTB feedback pages (mato519), 'cos he's due +3 for this lot.

That's my Brother! He has joined (user name postman, christ knows why!!) He hasn't had time to post yet. He has shed loads of stuff to sell and trade.
