I've been mixing my own stuff for years. IMO turntables are for 'listening' to superior vinyl tho, so I guess Jim and I will have to weep together. Roll over Frank Zappa...... ;-)

Here's some of my mixing gear;

10 guitars and 3 amps in total, wife says the same thing tho, LJ. She wants a return so I'm forced to play gigs at pubs etc. Life can be tough sometimes.

MMMMMMMM ANALOGUE!!!! ;-)

I have a pair of Tele's, ones still in progress tho. I can't decide on the pickups. The Squier is my little Hot Rod, $270 worth of guitar with $500 worth of pickups. Mmmmm.

I'm also a big vinyl lover. Got several TT's (Rotel, Pioneer, Marantz), but when people ask me if I scratch it makes me laugh. Pink Floyd is best listened to, analogue.

Superior vinyl, not again that discussion! :-|
Pink Floyd is indeed best heard with crackles, hissing and skipping needles. The less music you hear, the better. ;)

I am only kidding. Seriously...

I took my first steps in DJ-ing on 1200's, but around my 20th I bought my first set of pitchable CD-players. The last thing you want at a gig is a skipping needle, so these were a delight. Evolution is all about progress, not sticking to the past. I used to DJ hibrid for a while, but ten years ago I started selling the entire record collection (>3000 records). A few years ago I started selling the collector's items. At the moment I only have a small stack of 'all time classics' I simply can not sell.

Mind you, I hardly ever listen to music. I remix stuff, I edit material, take samples from one record and inject them in the other. The only thing analogue I love is analogue synthesisers. I have quite a few in my home studio, including the legendary Roland TB-303 (with box and some parts still sealed -> music meets collector!). Home studio is being built as we write. Picking up some 19" racking this weekend, new Mackie coming soon, etc. Here's the MS-10 and MS-20, both from 1978.

There is hope yet ;-) Properly looked after (not scratched) records will last for years without nasty pops hiss etc. My guitars are all analogue and no-ones quite mastered the art of digital amplifiers yet. Which is a pity cause valves aren't cheap.

I only listen to vinyl when I can really sit and listen, the rest of the time its CD, HDCD, DVDa, SACD or DTS CD. I have embraced digital too, I'm just not as happy with it. ;-) I have a Harmon Kardon HD-750 HDCD player and Pioneer 676a SACD/DVDa player into a Marantz SR4500 receiver, driving a 2 sets of American EPI's I rebuilt. Its sweet as.

TT is a Pioneer PL514 (shure M92ed cart) into a NAD PP2 preamp, then into the Marantz. In my study I have a Rotel RP-1100q (Ortophon VMS20e cart) into a rebuilt 1970's Sansui amp and a pair of rebuilt Marantz IMP3 speakers. Oh I luvs me music.

Then there's the kids room..... heh.

Nice Korg there too. The only bit of Korg gear I have is digital, a Pandora II. ;-)

I know that frequency wise a record is, will be, superior always, because it is a 100% copy of the original waveform. However, every record wears out, because of direct contact of the needle and the vinyl. After ten times playing you'll be getting artefacts a CD will never have. I never understood that why people would buy an expensive hi-fi set and then play a record that only cost a few pounds.

I pretty much f*cked up my hearing when I was young. I did a lot of gigs, my sound system was over 2k Watts. Having that pointed at you every weekend leaves traces. I hardly hear anything over 14kHz, but I can still hear crackles and other vinyl artefacts. So digital is fine for me! :-P

Plus digital saves me from getting a hernia! Vinyl weighs a ton, now I can put the USB in my inner pocket and hit the road! :D

In my studio I have Fostex active studio monitors. Same with my DJ set in the living room. Pure and flat sound, excellent for monitoring. In the livingroom the sound of the HD-theatre is powered by Harman Kardon (HS-300), more than sufficient for watching television or a movie. Still want these active babies, but they cost over 2K euros a piece, so for a complete surround system that over 10K of speakers! I don't think I can get the missus thát crazy! :-?

And to keep you happy, I also an electrical guitar in my studio! This is my father's old electrical guitar from the sixties!

And this is just to brag! The old man made a record in his days! :D

Wow, that looks like an early 60's Japanese manufacture. They made some unusual (and usually good) guitars back then.

Honestly tho, even my worst records hardly pop or hiss. Clean em, keep the needle clean and be careful. That's all you need to do.

My hearing is shot in my left ear at 3,500 khz from shooting and compounded by playing in the band. Also got permanent tinnitus, also worse in my left ear. You really do have to look after your ears.
