Did ILM and THX go to? 4b is indeed bargain basement. I was reading he was handing over the reigns a few weeks back. I can't help thinking that GL must have written a few clauses into this one.

i hope to god they don't continue or do anymore prequel type star wars stuff i think the market is now too narrow for it to be hugely successful. plus i think it would be crap. maybe snow white and the 7 jawas or perhaps "indiana solo and the very last crusade for health reasons", so they can use Mr Ford in a duel role. they might be worth a laugh.

That's indeed my initial understanding but haven't double-checked or drilled into the business pages WSJ/FT or blah. Maybe just a majority holding 51% and he retains the rest? Whatever, he's ceded control.
I think he just decided fk it and walked, at every level. ILM kept Lucasfilm going for so many years in a big way, all kinds of movies had their effects.
He will be involved as consultant-pater familias for the SW continuation.
4bn is a bargain. That's like buying at 2bn in 2007-2008 -ish, loose change on the credit markets ...
... which kind of means that we could have all got together and bought it via the bond market and got the rights from SW to pay the for the interest on the bond. I.e. we could have bought it for nothing other than the legal and merchant bank costs of issuing a bond promising to pay an annual fee to bond holders who had given us the money to buy the business itself. So we'd have paid it off by now and be living on the West Coast enjoying cake and fine wine and a new range of SW toys and having bought the rights from Hasbro some new AF toys too. And have made an AF movie.

sh*t Krackers, don't scare me.
When Ep IV came out GL secured the rights to merchandise as 20CF thought it would tank. He still owns those rights as far as I know and I don't think they were ever part of Lucasfilm. Then there is Lucasarts too. I wonder if he'll sort it the same was as Superman was for DC and Warner? It might still be his intellectual property or sumit like that, so big kick backs for ever film or Ewok on screen rooting a bunny behind a rainbow.
TBF, Weta has made huge inroads into ILM's biscuit over the last decade so maybe he sees that as copping too much competition in the future?

I believe the deal was for everything! He announced the hand over to Kathleen Kennedy back in January as he wanted to retire. Personally I believe he's done us a all ahuge favour! Star Wars will be going for a VERY long time now

I agree, Graham. I have already considered that we might get to see the New Jedi order and the new republic. It just scares me that Disney may turn it into a joke. I think the 3 prequels were OK for what they were and TCW is nailing the old trilogy in feel. If they can at least maintain that then we might be in look. Its just..... DISNEY?
My favourite movie of theirs is one they have tried to bury, Song of the south. I hope they don't try and deny Vader.
