Hi all,
I had a nice day out @ the Imperial War Museum Duxford today, lots of folks brought their toys out to play ..

..with many dressing up to add an authentic touch, it's like watching your Action-man come to life ..

The museums own vehicles also got to strut their stuff in the display arena, this beast's a prototype anti aircraft system mated to a Chieftain tank..

The Duxford collection itself, have not long taken delivery of this Sea King...a Tiger Force custom possibly

All looks great but really like the V bomber display. Hoping to go to Duxford at the start of July, am on a course at Cosford then going to nip over to the other side of the country to have a few days in cambridge etc.

Do I need a passport to get in to England?

I can highly recommend Duxford as a good day out Paul, especially if it's got an event such as this going on when you visit, it adds more life to the static exhibits which in themselves are very good.
The land warfare hall is set up in much the same way as them old fashioned Matchbox model kits used to be.. but with real vehicles, displayed in life sized dioramas with wax works like this German soldier here.

Lots of historic aircraft to see, both military & civil, in the hangers & outside on the flight line. Also check out the Op's room & preservation hangers, where planes can be seen being restored to thier former glory..the mechanics are happy to stop & chat about the particular aircraft they're working on. Some amazing work being carried out, the miles of electrical cabling & mechanical workings are truly a sight to behold.

Really looking forward to it. Last time I was there was 1991! Remember seeing Memphis Belle and seeing a B 52 hanging in the roof of one of the display hangars.

I love the way they have full size plains hanging from the roof, in the same way a kid would hang up an Airfix kit..The B-17 wasn't there today
But a Mustang took off & gave a flypast & an old U.S.A.F Sabre jet also arrived later in the afternoon, buzzing low over the airfield & performing a victory role before landing, the pilot waved back to me as he taxied by.

Yep, 1:1 is definitely the way to go..but I could imagine having trouble finding enough room in the house to display it all

I got chatting to one of the guys who were dressed in W.W.1 uniforms & giving talks about the various weapons & bits of kit, from thier own private collections, that they had brought along to demonstrate.. fascinating stuff to see indeed.
Apparently, these guys (both reenactors) could portray a fully equipped British soldier from any conflict of the last century, & had been in Dunkirk the weekend beforehand for the ceremonies.. having traveled across on the ferry in full period uniforms, carrying Lee Enfield rifles.

That very easily could of been Shipwreck D.A. as the A.W.E striker was there again this year ..

This was taken last year, every time I see it the owner has added a new item of equipment.
