I am really really hoping for DDP to continue with it and keep the license.
For many many reasons but one being I feel like they are the only ones to give us a chance on brining back the RED SHADOWS
I dont think the other publishers would give us a shot and DDP is the only one that will! ( if we make our voices heard and everyone signs the petition! ))

Wel, here is myopinion for what it is worth.
I read Battle and then Battle/Action Force during the 1970s and 1980's (alongside 2000AD) and GI Joe from issue 1 back in 1982 through its first demise, so I guess you could say that I grew up with these characters.
Marvel's run could be a little hit and miss, and suffered badly from having to include characters corresponding to the toys. Think of DEF, Ninja Force, Eco Warriors, Space Force and many of the later characters.
When Image started their run, I was excited, but not overly impressed. There was some resolution to the end of the Marvel series, which was nice, and the chracters resembled what I remembered. What let it down was some of the storylines.

The Mission That Never Was
Frontline
Master and Apprentice
Arashikage Showdown
The clone kids. Nice build up to the new Serpentor arc. Very like Vilage/Children of the damned. Creepy.
The kidnap of The Baroness/Flint. Made sense. CC must have made a lot of enemies.

Scarlett Declassified

What I didn't like:
The seemingly endless battle between Snake Eyes/Firefly
The Return of Serpentor- great build up, just far too rushed
Coil/Cobra Civil War- again great build up, over too quickly

Hawk in a wheelchair being broody and sulky
The return of The Red Shadows. I applaud the attempt to bring them back, but.....lousy build up, badly executed, over before we could blink. None of the original Shadows.
America's Elite.
Joe Casey- worst thing that ever happened to the title, IMHO. Had never read the comics, didn't know or care about teh characters. Read like bad fan fiction.
Death/Resurrection of Snake Eyes- Bleah! to the nth degree

World War III. From what I have seen, it has been an improvement, but not great. As before, too much talk and not enough action.
Looking through my lists, I find it interesting that most of what I have enjoyed about the DDP run have been the miniseries or one-shot issues, not directly linked to an ongoing story. IMO, this is where they have got the stories and the characters correct. Much of the rest has read like bad fan fiction.
I think the main problem has been that the early issues of AE alienated a great many fans. My local comic shop, now closed, unfortunately, was getting 15 issues of GI Joe in, 9 as orders for regulars, up to issue 43, and selling all but 1 or 2. After 8 issues of AE, I was the only regular still ordering it, and I cancelled after isue 11. The owner dropped all of the extra copies. The general consensus was that it just didn't feel like GI Joe any more. These were all people who had read it from the 1980's.
As for the return of The Red Shadows, I believe that this was very badly handled. The build up should have started before the Cobra Civil War and continued with the kidnap of The Baroness and Flint, with an unkown organisation behind it. Having Alexander McCullen involved would have been a good touch. This would have led into the Cobra Civil War, which should have gone on for at least another 10 issues, imo, with a high body count on all sides and the Red Shadows stepping in to pick up the pieces in the aftermath. This would have had the reduced and badly demoralised Joes facing a new and unknown enemy, and Cobra and the Coil on the run from both the Joes and The Shadows. Leads into the WWIII arc, with our good Baron making a power play worldwide, and Action Force having to step up to the mark to bolster the depleted Joe forces.

Two things I am most worried about

The continuity that has been going on for 20 plus years will be gone and if so then I wont be buying
THE RED SHADOWS and ACTION FORCE will not be back EVER again.
Devils Due I believe would have brought these back again and again if they kept the title
Eventually with the new writer and the recent appearance of Action Force in Americas Elite #30 I believe we would have seen the orginal RED SHADOWS come too.
Heck they killed Artur kulik ( sadly only by TEXT and NO on screen appearance ) so they are going to have to start getting somebody in there for the RED SHADOWS
Baron can we change that petition or would we have to start all over again?
