I seem to remember a military expert saying it was a Russian saying...many years since I saw the programme, so I may of misquoted it a little.

Any ways, this guy said it expressed Soviet tank warfare tactics during W.W.2, O.K. so the German tanks may of been technically superior & have a higher kill ratio per tank, but the U.S.S.R produced so many T34's that they overwhelmed the enemy with sheer numbers.

that was basically Soviet military doctrine all over. don't build something really fancy, build something reliable, build a sh*t load and rely on numbers.

of course, if you've got better tactics or better technology to defeat superior numbers it don't mean sh*t.

i mean, 100,000 tanks are all very well, but if the US Air Force could use a half dozen F-117s to bomb the main bridges into West Germany, 100,000 tanks suddenly can't go any where and become sitting ducks...
