T.S.R.2 play for today.
Hi all,
I think the story of this aircraft has been mentioned before in other threads, but here's a radio play telling the story of this wonderful warplane.
It's a fascinating story, well told & acted story, so please give it a listen..in fact it sound's like a audio version of an old "Eagle" comic style story.

Another defence cock up by another bunch of labour tossers. She would have been the best.

Won't seem revolutionary at some future date? Me thinketh that the MOD missed the point.

if it'd gone into production, they'd still be flying today. probably flying CAS missions in Afghanistan and they'd've been sortieing over Iraq in '91 and '03. Hell, they'd've been dropping iron on Bosnia and Kosovo too!

Yup, the TSR 2F. Imagine that.

When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

Have been trying to post pics of TSR engines for about 2 weeks now. How apt.
PS. UK MOD - and perhaps the UK in general - is fugged.

You gotta respect the test pilot's don't ya?
With a problem with the undercarriage comes to light, possibly preventing a safe landing:
"..O.K here's your chance to try out Martin Baker"
"You're not going to get rid of me that easily, I'm staying!"
Yes there where many reasons why the project was canceled, both political & economic..but it was the shabby way that the people who built it were treated that infuriates, first learning they had lost there jobs via radio news broadcast then seeing all the hard work just destroyed.
Still what can you expect?
I often have the feeling that whoever's in charge of the country can't see further then their own nose when it comes to planning for the future..with short term profit getting the priority over long term gain.
Grumble, grumble..

That video's slightly inaccurate. there's two surviving examples, one in the Imp War Museum, the other at the RAF museum in Cosford.

Thank god some one had sense to save two of the airframes off the production line, they never flew & had all the wiring looms cut, so no one could reproduce them.
Here's some photo's of Duxford's one, I took 'em a couple of years ago, shortly after it had been restored & placed in the new super hanger which is dedicated to the story of U.K aviation.
