Uk/Europe/German Figure Variants

Post by paulitoy »

Along similar lines to my previous thread on Z Force Commanders:

Here's something similar. Loose as I don't have these all moc yet.... :doc:

Here is my interpretation, feel free to chip in.

The first figure is the 'regular' UK standard model.

The middle one is the European Variant and the third, the German.

Now it is my belief that the European versions were far from commonplace. Indeed, these may be from just one European country with all the other Euro-produced figures following the UK standard versions. They may also be updated, improved, 'wave 3' figures that came out with the line expansion in 1984 [Kraken, Skeletron, Minesweeper, etc...] although I don't think so.

All of the carded versions that I have or have seen of the rare 'Euro' versions have been on Euro cards, so to me that says they were Euro-exclusive versions. Interestingly, a lot of the prototype pre-release material showed the figures with this extra paint. One would assume that the removal of the extra paint detail was to save on costs...

Ofcourse any 'theory' goes out the window in the latter months of Palitoy when the 'anything goes' approach saw stock shifted in any order - a few of us here have the UK Black Major figure packed with the German 'this is your life' red book.

I remember Steved posting a pic of his Space Force Patroller with extra arm paint which seems very unique [a painting error??] - could you re-post that Steve as I can't find it.

the range of variants around is quite astonishing to me, i really don't know a huge amount about them. Do you think there is far greater number of variants that are possibly known about or are there regular ones that are rare but are common?
