Battlestar Galactica The Plan movie
Re: Battlestar Galactica The Plan movie
The BSG time travel thing is based on a book which I read while I was a student, it postulated that by travelling at the speed of light you would jump back in time. So in theory every time they made a FTL jump they were travelling back in time, that's my take anyway.
Aah DS9! I'm still hung on Sisko's line I will be back (or similar)!!! That was the only loose end that was left. An opening for a future film I thought at the time..

When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

Well without knowing what you read, in theory warp drive folding space isn't it. Jumps I'd assumed were a similar concept. If you travel at the speed of light, time appears to stop, as its relative. FTL is going back in time. Damn I hate time, its a bitch. Like the wormhole aliens said "Why do you exist here?". Errie really.
Another big thing not tied up in DS9 was the Bajorans joining the Federation. IIRC Sisko said they weren't ready yet but it WAS going to happen. Movie plot, methinks?

Not going to happen now Chopper with the reboot the timing for that story has been lost now sadly.

Think you might be right, it's a shame really because I think a DS 9 film would have been superb.

Wish I could remember the name of the book. Sure it also had stuff about the Bermuda Triangle and the like in it as well!! I never used to analysis sci fi programmes until the BSG finale that really made me think!!

Re: Battlestar Galactica The Plan movie
The Star Trek reboot opened a huge can of worms. Kahn is still floating around in the Botany bay etc, etc, Squier of Gothos not yet visited, great barrier not crossed. The worst thing is that they may use these as plots. Realistically they have to. Mind you, now time has changed Kirk may never meet Kahn an some other unsuspecting captain may unleash him upon the universe and..... and...... and. Damned reboot. The more I think about it the lamer I think it is. No bloody imagination.
Did you ever see The Triangle, Paul?

Sorry, but where was the time travel in BSG? I assumed it was all set "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"
Am I the only person who loved Straczynski's Jeremiah?
Chop do you know the story behind the sabotaged end of the Shadow War storyline?

I think he's referring to FTL, Baron.
I haven't seen B5 in years so can't really remember. I will get back to it one day. Stargate too.
Jerimiah? Was is das?

Re: Battlestar Galactica The Plan movie
Stargate Universe is VERY good, they've picked up a lot of pointers from BSG I would say.
Jeremiah was Straczynski's post B5 project. It's based upon a European comic of the same name, about a post apocalyptic earth where all of the adults are dead and all of the kids have now grown to young adults. It starred Matthew Perry and Jamal Warner. It had all of Straczynski's patient magic combined with swearing and nudity. Lots of pre BSG cameos too. It starts off slow, so everyone I recommend it to has given up, but then the plot thickens and it just rollercoasters into all-out war. Sadly it got axed 3/4 through season two but luckily he had enough warning to tie it all together.
Season 4 of B5... [SPOILERS]
For them whats don't know. JMS had a five year plan. He had a plot all scripted with timelines, turning points, key moments, a beginning, a middle and an end. He hawked it around as such and landed a deal.
At the end of season one Garibaldi went to JMS and said if Michael Hare looks at my wife like that again I'll f*cking kill him, it's him or me. Hare was sacked, there was swift rewrite and Sheridan was born. Thankfully Bruce Boxleitner was a huge upgrade.
Season two went according to plan, as did season three, the plot developed beautifully and everyone was hooked. Season three ended on the greatest cliffhanger of all time...
and then sabotage.
The studio told him he could only have one more season, not two. Was it done by Star Trek? I think so.
So he sped up the shadow war, squeezed in the earth civil war and made everyone live happily ever after. Hence the breakneck pace.
And then the studio said, oh go on then, you can have season five after all.
So he fished the fall of Centauri Prime out of the bin and hastily penned a ten episode filler to plug the gap caused by the edits. This is why we got the f*cking terrible Byron underground telepath commune subplot. Remember that scene in 5.01 where G'kar is dashing about fretfully trying to finish Sheridan's inauguration speech in time? Art reflects life.
And then...
Claudia Christian said she would only consent to film season five if her salary was doubled.
So she got told to f*ck off and Captain Lochley was born. They then hastily filmed a replacement 4.22 cliffhanger (the time travel thingy) on a shoestring and bumped the original up to 5.22 (which is how come Ivonova is in it).
So, how it SHOULD have gone...
Sheridan on Z'ha-dum would have been a long harrowing tale, the desolation on B5 in his absence would have been immense, climaxing in the MOTHER of all double-episode battles. G'kar's imprisonment and torture would also have been twice as long and Emporer Catajja would have been a far more major character.
On to victory, celebration.
Then, in due time, Sheridan would have turned his eye towards Earth, doubtless plot threads would have continued to build during the finale of the Shadow War. The cliffhanger for season 4 WOULD have been the betrayal and capture of Sheridan. See how f*cking cool it should have been?
Season five, the earth war would have spiralled on. With Sheridan a prisoner and the introduction of the reverse-engineered Shadow forces, the Alliance would have lost ground. Meanwhile the Drakh presence on Centauri Prime would have slowly solidified throughout, I suspect Londo's isolation would have been quite different, building up to the character we saw in the Babylon 4 future flash. That whole sense of things falling apart that was captured so magnificentally in seasons two and three would have been the mainstay of the entire show.
The big twist would have been that Sheridan's ex-wife was in fact Ivonova, not Lochley. Go back and watch that again and it's so bloody obvious, also her teep powers would have manifested.
All of which would have been on schedule to end around mid season-five, the last 11 episodes I think are pretty much done as intended.
I think that, given the obstacles he encountered, he did a fantastic job. I also think he should have told the studio to go f*ck themselves and filmed series four as planned, hoping that five would be picked up later - but that's just me, it must have been f*cking agonising.
Makes me angry still.

Re: Battlestar Galactica The Plan movie
Right. Now I have to go back and watch it all again. Half way thru that telepathy crap I stopped watching bar a couple of the movie's that I can barely remember.
My plan with SG1 is to watch the whole lot in a row and catch up to...... been my plan for about 3 years now
My fave US comedy, Sledge Hammer, was axed after season 1 so the series was left with an atomic bomb cliff hanger. The studio asked Alan how they got out of that one. He told them they had to watch the next season. So Season 2 Episode 1 starts with "Sledge Hammer, the early years".
Fuckin cracker.
