Action Force Communications And Code Kit by Salters
I have just managed to get an Action Force Communications And Code Kit by Salters.
NB As it has been opened I am not sure whether all of the contents are correct, for instance though a couple of pictures I have seen of this item had red Walkie Talkies, this set has black ones.
Here are the pictures & information I hope this is of use.
Action Force Communications And Code Kit by Salters
The Action Force Communications And Code Kit was one of at least two “Salters Adventure Kitsâ€.
These “Adventure Kits†were sets of child-sized accessories produced, under licence from Palitoy, by Thomas Salter Ltd.
Salters were a British toy company based in Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland, who produced both their own original toys, including "science" toys, & licensed Items such as jigsaws & transfers. Among their other licences were The A-Team, Masters Of The Universe, My Little Pony, Street Hawk & Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi.
The only other “Salters Adventure Kit†I know of was the Action Force Combat Kit. See my topic "Action Force Combat Kit by Salters - Replacement Pictures" (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2869) for more details.
The packaging of the Adventure Kits does not show any of Palitoy’s Action Force toys & none of the items included in the Combat Kit had any Action Force markings.
In this Communications And Code Kit only one of the Code Wheels has any Action Force markings (an Action Force logo).
Other companies may have produced some of the items for Salters.
MORE INFORMATION NEEDED
If anyone could confirm whether this set is correct & complete I would be grateful if they could let me know.
I would also be grateful if anyone could tell me whether there were any other sets.
PACKAGING
The Communications And Code Kit came in a large tray with a liftoff lid.
The contents are shown above packaged in the inner cardboard tray.
NB I am not sure if this is how they were originally packed, but this seems the likeliest layout with the two Enigma Codes & the two Combination Cyphers behind the Instructions. The two Enigma Codes may have come joined together & have since been separated.
I am not sure where the Paper Strips were to be found, maybe with the Instructions etc, but in the picture above I have just placed them along the bottom of the tray.
CONTENTS
NB Please remember as it had been opened I cannot guarantee these are the original contents. Salters also produced other sets with these or similar items. Including their Secret Code Kit set.
Most of the Items pictured above came in pairs but I have only included one of each in this picture.
The set I have includes:
a Coder Wheel, a Code â— Decode Wheel, a Heliograph, two Enigma Codes, two Combination Cyphers, a page of Secret Code Kit Instructions, two Small Walkie Talkies with a “Connecting Tubeâ€[/u, two Code Watches, two Scytale Staffs & five Strips of Paper.
HELIOGRAPH
The Heliograph actually worked, by pressing a button the diagonal slatted mirrors moved to a vertical position. It sends signals by reflecting light. There was a Morse Code table moulded on the back of the Heliograph.
Walkie Talkies
The two Walkie Talkies in the set I have are in black with a white pull-out Aerial, they come with a 10 feet 6 inches long black plastic “Connecting Tubeâ€.
The Connecting Tube just seems to be that, a rather pointless black tube that attaches to the back of each Walkie Talkies & it doesn't appear to do anything else.
NB In the only other pictures I have seen of this set, the Walkie Talkies were moulded in red plastic not black so these may not belong to this set or this may be a variation.
Code Wheels
There are two Code Wheels in this set.
Again I cannot be sure whether both belong to this set as only one has any Action Force markings.
The one with the Action Force markings is the Coder Wheel, which has an Action Force Logo, this is the only Item in the set to have any Action Force markings.
The other Code Wheel is the Code â— Decode Wheel.
Both Code Wheels are quite basic, each consists of two circles of card held together in the middle with a split pin paperclip.
The Code Wheels pictured still have the press-out pieces of card in the smaller inner circle, when removed these form a square “window†though which coded/decoded letters are read.
Scytale Staffs etc
There are two Scytale Staffs in the set. These are black cardboard tubes with removable red plastic Caps on each end. There are a number of Paper Strips (measuring 17 by 1¼ inches) included.
Secret messages are written on the Paper Strips after wrapping around the Scytale Staff.
There are still five Paper Strips in this set but originally there may have been more.
Enigma Codes
There are two Enigma Code cards (these may have come joined together). Each had two press-out strips of card which were not needed & had to be removed before the code cards could be used.
Combination Cyphers
There are two Combination Cyphers each had fifteen press-out circles of card which were not needed & had to be removed before the code cards could be used (the one pictured still has these in place).
Code Watches
There are two Code Watches in black.
Secret Code Kit Instructions
The Secret Code Kit Instructions was an A4 sized sheet of paper, printed on both sides & folded into quarters.
It gives instructions on how to use the various coding devices.
I hope this information will be of use.
