Operation Mongoose
Yesterday i went to see the movie for a second time. And there was one thing that kept me busy... At the end of the movie they get in a plane and say something like "Lets start operation Mongoose". Why would they use THAT name for an operation?
GI Joe is an international team fighting terrorism. But "operation Mongoose" is a historical CIA program that used sabotage and terrorism itself to overthrow the Cuban government in the early 60's! I just dont understand....
Here is info on Mongoose on Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mongoose
One of the Mongoose-elements that did not get approved was Operation Northwoods. Absurd plans! Here is info on Northwoods:

Why would they connect a historical terroristic operation to the GI Joe team???

Re: Operation Mongoose
Seems some people think rational when a question is being asked and come up with a plausible answer...
"You probably did more research into the name of the operation than the people that did the movie!! Had they researched it thoroughly, they most likely would not have used it. I'm sure that they called it that just because a mongoose is the sworn enemy of a cobra. But if enough people point this out, they may end up not using it at all in the next movie."
This youtube clip demonstrates the claim:

My question is answered, but it is still worth it reading the Northwoods story.

Re: Operation Mongoose
i think you're reading too much into it. Mongeese fight Cobras. Cobra rose. Joes fight back is called 'Mongoose'.

Re: Operation Mongoose
I did not knew a mongoose was a natural enemy of a cobra. I did know about the CIA operations prior to the theater visit. When i heard it in the movie, twice, it just did not make any sense to me using that name for an operation. Thats is why i asked. The explanation makes sense 100%.

The sub had Cobra insignia on it's side bill the book had the Cobra slide into view from the MARS insignia letters. The book doesn't reference Mongoose or the Commander and Destro being caught either.

other than snakeeyes lips the ending annoyed me, just seemed really rushed.
how does the book end if it dosent mention cc and destro being caught??
i just finished reading revenge of the sith and the book explains a good bit more than the film showed. gives a better insight into palpatine and his relationship with anakin and also focuces on the politics/senate a bit more. basically establishes the foundation of the rebel alliance as well
