Maybe I am being a grumpy old man (great series), but who can explain to me what the fun is in placing identical figures on a shelf in a straight line? A lot of collectors are doing that. OK, I know we are not going to play with it like children anymore, but come on! It is a modern fully posable action figure!

We'll i'd agree in some respects Jaye, But i personally prefer the uniform approach i'm not saying your wrong it's just my preference is what it is.

The pole dancing could be funny, but the other thing... I prefer to see the soldiers in a straight line (and being straight, too)

I'm at the point were I have most of the figures I want, but not the space to show em off, or play with them. I will do something about that at some stage. Lining the buggers up makes it easier to store them in a confined area too. Unfortunately it can lead to the dreaded Joeminoes.

That reminds me of a picture I once used to sell a small lot of figures! I got so many questions and remarks on that auction!

In my opinion then you might as well place a dozen indentical resin statues on a shelf. Mind you, I have quite some armybuilders as well, so I understand the 'reason' of having masses of identical figures. But why the hell is everybody placing them identical? Of course everybody should do what they want, but stacking stuff makes a collection room look like a warehouse not a wee museum.

My approach might look messy and less impressive then it comes to size, but at least there's something to see. When I started armybuilding Steel Brigades I had them on display like the first picture. Not stacked in rows but as a tough group. Still a little boring, so I changed it to picture #2. OK, the group now more looks like renegades without any sense of military precision, but there is more to see. Picture #3: I picked up a small buddha display for a few pounds to display my martial arts figures. OK, it takes up space, but it gives the figure some sort of environment thus making it more lively.

Less is more! Display less in quantity, but better in quality. To much stuff crammed on one shelf is hard on the eye. We all spend so much on our toys, but why do most of us display it so 'cheap': white IKEA shelves crammed with toys. Spend a little more on a proper cabinet, display less and rotate the collection. Everytime somebody visits my room it has changed a little, so everytime there is something to see. And, that is the best part, it gives me an excuse to play with me wee dollies from time to time!

i have ten figures on my shelf in front of my stereo which get periodically swapped around, between GI Joe and AF. sometimes there's 10 Joes, sometimes there's 5 Joes and 5 Cobras, or otehr variations. currently, it's 9 Joes and Undertow. another 3 figures stand atop one stereo speaker atm, it's and my Thrust custom Andy made which is a permanent fixture of any AF grouping.

oh, and i've saved that first SB figure for a wallpaper. cheers

Excellent pics Jaye! Love the Steel Brigade. I both agree and disagree. Some of mine are lined up like Parade Ground styleee, others are forming triangular formations like the Steel Brigade there. Space is a factor for some, but others, like series 1 troops I stopped at 6 of each, to do a 3-2-1 formation like your Steel Brigade picture 1. A cabinet reshuffle is planned for me in the Winter months, to put some different stuff out, and give others a rest.
