Red Mercs
Re: Red Mercs
Too late for that. TKW, would it not be easier to dob a splat of white paint onto said custom and apply the transfer over the top?
Re: Red Mercs
Ay - post away TKW - I can barely get huffy about it after the amount of threads I've wrecked or dragged down into the gutter over the years! The Baron wrote:Too late for that. TKW, would it not be easier to dob a splat of white paint onto said custom and apply the transfer over the top?

I did indeed - I applied the transfers and all the shoulder detailing etc and then put some matt lacquer over, other than on Crimson Shadow, who remains unlacquered, but his paint seems harder wearingwith it being darker. It's not as bad as the satin or gloss lacquer, but it certainly aint matt! In the flesh, it looks fine, it just looks a bit like jelly on the photos, and makes it look like I've applied the paint with a trowel, rather than a fine horsehair brush! The Kraken Wakes wrote:Steve, assumed you used some sealent / lacquer over the top - did you find that it looks very shiny now compared to the original layer? I just did this on a custom and not too happy with the final look now...
In fairness though - it protects them so much I will still use it again in the future, and am finding it interesting to use stuff like Games Workshop Ardcote (which is very glossy) to make boots look shiny, or give a glassy effect for eyes or goggles. I left these guys with dirty boots though, so no lacquer on them.

I got a bit, erm, sidetracked! Besides - had to make sure they were fully dry before applying some more coats. I just misread the bit where it says "overnight" as "three months".scoobydie wrote:About bloody time Steve!!
Once again, cheers guys! I'm so stoked on these guys I will probably do some more to give a nice army of them. Once I clear the other 40 plus items off the "work in progress" shelf. Oh, and the work in progress drawer. And bag.
Christ, I'm going to be on til Christmas at this rate!

Re: Red Mercs
It can be, but I find it easier to judge with the white backing as you can line them up pre-soaking to make sure there are no bits showing or not showing where they should... White paint sometimes needs a few coats to show well so it could get all bumpy and if you paint too much white then its harder to correct...The Baron wrote:Too late for that. These were the base figures - with some head swaps - Forces of Valor Bravo Team, WWII German figures:-SPEC OPS wrote:nice work. whats the body again?

I did some head swaps so they dont just look like clones. That link is a store in the US but I ultimately tracked down a shop in the UK that sold them but I can't find it now. If anyone is feeling rich have a look at their 1/18th tanks and planes. Only ever seen them for sale in the US, and they are pretty pricey but they look awesome!
I was very tempted to pop a dot of paint between the eyes to create, well, eyes, but the first one I tried went shockingly wrong, and wrecked the helmet due to my cack handed ways, so I figured I'd stick with the "slotted" look.

Wow - just been having a look at some of the modern stuff on there too - some of the Navy seals would make freaking awesome SAS dudes! And tanks!!! Lots of tanks!! There's also an APC looking thing that looks to be scheduled to be made. I can see I'm going to be saving up for an order!
