Hmm, haven't played them but reminded me that I also completed COD: World at War at Xmas. A very different reality to COD4, couldn't get online to work properly on the PS3 network so jacked it in on that front.

for some bizarre reason i can't fathom, neither CoD2 or CoD4 will play MP on my PC. yet SP works fine...

they're both patched and set to run in xp emulation mode, but they just won't have it.

hoping like hell Modern Warfare 2 plays properly...

Hellyes! The only thing that comes close to the gaming perfection of MGS for me is the Resident Evil series and COD4 :) If anyone wants to play some (Xbox 360) online some time shoot me a PM and we'll exchange usernames!

First person shooters were my favourite for years: Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake, Unreal, Half-Life, Soldier of Fortune, Battlefield, Call of Duty, SW Battlefront, etc.

On the Commodore 64 there was a 3D level in Platoon (Vietcong tunnels), but to call it a true fps is a little too much for 80-ies technology. I think Wolfenstein was my first ever true fps. I played it for nights in a row. It was really cool when you finally got to kill Hitler: "Eva, auf wiedersehen!" Spear of Destiny was also cool, but basically more of the same.

Whilst in university Doom was released. There were loads of tools to alter the game. I remember having a NWA gansta rap version with the bad guys screaming: "Suprise n*gger!", and: "shoot that motherf*cker!" Nowadays this language can be heard in more games, but at the time, 1994 or so, it was 'not done' to have it in official releases.

Then Quake came out. At first it was more of the same, Doom revamped, but then VooDoo 3D cards were released. Graphics became fluid. Quake then became a massive hit for me. I loved the nailgun! The biggest hit was the network mode. At the time I was working at Xerox and on friday afternoons we gamed al lot over the network.

In my opinion after that there were no more true revolutions. Once you finished one game, you've played them all. Basically it is a simple storyline, you follow a road to the finish and you shoot every bad guy to Walhalla in the process. Artificial intelligence (Half-Life) added some extra game tension, but after a while you could easily guess the behaviour. Graphics and sound still improve every week, but gameplay remains the same. Today, I hardly ever finish a game anymore. After a few levels I get bored. It all looks smashing, but gameplay does not bring any added value.

I'm no longer fond of online gaming. I love the concept, but on every server there are a few übernerds who are online 24/7, have shortcuts to every possible move and love to waste n00bs. I don't have a problem being fragged, a lot but after being fragged for so many times in a row and not being able to have a little gameplay it gets irritating.

I stopped playing games with have levels that take hours to complete. At the moment I have better things to do with my time. The only games I play are:

Nintendo DS: you can start up a game in seconds and the missus can still watch her movie on television. I love to play small puzzle games whilst on the toilet waiting for a brown parcel to drop. Professor Layton, Jewel Quest, Mario Kart, etc.
Wii:snowboarding when shattered is really cool. Graphics on the Wii are not the best in the house, but I love the way gameplay is being handled.
PlayStation: mainly racing games (Need for Speed) as you can play for 15 minutes and then turn off the console. I also like GTA and alike, but only on rainy afternoons. Unfortunately we only have one 42" screen in the house. Buzz is a really cool game to play with friends when organising a social night.

I don't play on the PC no more as my machine needs to stay lean and mean for audio processing in my studio.

Yep, my favourite gaming genre.
I started with WOLFENSTEIN 3D back when it was originally released (on a 3" disc), graduated to DOOM and it's many spin-offs and am currently loving KILLZONE 2 (Really liked the first KILLZONE on PS2 actually, yet almost everyone else seemed to hate that one).

Other favourites include GOLDENEYE 64 (of course), EXHUMED on the old Sega Saturn, BLACK on PS2 (I pretend it's an AF/JOE game when I play it) and QUAKE 2 & SIN on PC. Best of all was HALF-LIFE and it's many add-ons (BLUE SHIFT and OPPOSING FORCES). Such a great game (I prefer the first one to HALF-LIFE 2 to be honest). Every time you thought it was coming to a climax, the game just kept going! Very cinematic too - I'm surprised nobody's made a movie of it.

Looking forward to the new WOLFENSTEIN next month... funny how things come full circle.

My Playstation Network ID is REDSQUAD. I'm usually playing KILLZONE 2 Bodycount mode when I'm online. Earned the "top 1%" ribbon three times now!!

I preferred the first BATTLEFRONT. I thought the vehicle sections in the second one were really bad and the radar seemed useless (or maybe I was...)
