Z Commander

Post by Chopper »

My new Commander just popped in from England, I was just wondering if there had ever been resolution over his identity? Is he Major Flagg? Was he a Z Commander or an AF Commander? I'm sure most would say Z, but I can't help feeling he'd be better suited as head honcho of AF. One up from Skip, Eagle, Skyraider, Leviathan, Duke and Flint.

As a side note for MAF era experts, why was Flint in charge of Falcon? Actully there were a few that outranked both Duke and Flint. WO Wild Bill, Lt Falcon, Group Captain Ace, lt JG Cutter, Sgt Slammer, Lt Slipstream, BG Hawk etc. How did the rank structure after BAF work?

One of Paul's MOC's? Hmmm, I'm not convinced. Not sure why.

my fan-fic treats The Commander as being the bloke in overall command. like 'The Commander' in Ironblood's Revenge who sends Eagle and Trooper off to investigate the ocean-going tug business.

as for the Joes, according to Arise Serpentor Arise "First comes Hawk, then Duke, then (Flint) then (Beach Head)', however an AF weekly letter's page suggested that command falls to whoever's area of speciality takes precedence. EG, Dusty would be in charge in a desert op.

clearly bananas.

Keel-Haul, Hawk and General Flagg were the three most senior officers.

then there's Col. Courage, Major Altitude, then Captain Grid-Iron and Ace, Slipstream, Dogfight, Maverick, Lt. Falcon and Steeler who are variously captains and lieutenants... besides an ass-load of various levels of sergeants, chief petty officers, petty officers, master sergeants, sergeant-majors, warrant officers and staff sergeants, at least one Gunnery Sergeant (Leatherneck) and then sundry corporals and Specialists...

All that seems to fit. I'll go with that ;)

The real SAS don't have a chain of command either, Sundance. Mind you SAS are usually NCO's at the most, not officers. The whole point of the SAS is a team, not so much a hierarchy, so a corporal could be giving a Sergeant instructions depending on his abilities. Like Dusty in a desert op.
