Well we were more a mundane breed of Romano-Celtic-Anglo-Saxon-Frisian-Danish-Norse and thus Romano-Germanic at least up until the last war I suppose; with plenty of banal Normanised-Norse skulking about with their hollow shoulders and tedious accents, airs and graces adding to the mix of course.
Anyway, the big symbols on the vehicles are mainly in Cyrillic (Russian character set) I translated them from the book once in my youth but found no great meaning hidden there, post some pics if you want 'em translating literally from Russki as well but remember to say pozhelsta first.
Some of the character sets maybe from the Cyrillic character sets used uniquely to render Kazakh, Krygyz and Mongolian. You can check 'em out on Word's insert symbol menu.
