Some kid it's ridiculous that the Dr is getting younger what's next a sperm playing the part? I do like David Tennant in the role and even liked Chris Eccleston as well but really cringing at him being Destro.
Spock, where the hell's the power you promised?

i wasnt sure about tennant the first couple of episodes, but he turned out to be great! was so happy in the episode where you thought he was changing, but then he decided to stick around as the need to change had gone!

Wow, lots of opinions and I agree with most. The only things that worry me in regards to the new Trek film are,
One, its considered mainstream and I completely agree with Crimson rage. When you tailor a film like that its easy to make it a ho-hum action flick with stuff all story to it.
Two, the technology looks more advanced than TOS.
Three, why is a young Kirk driving a f*cking Corvette in the future?
Four, why is Bones so young?
Five, why do a bloody prequel? There is a huge future to embrace in Trek and Roddenberry knew it. Going back only shows me the writers have no bloody imagination.
Six, there better be some Pike continuity or it'll shoot the story to hell.
Seven, sex scenes? FFS. graphic violence? Swearing? ( in TOS the crew were largely unfamiliar with our ancient terminology). Why can they not make a film that I can take the kids to see too? What is this sh*tty preoccupation with making scarier or sexier to appeal to a more adult audience? It used to be possible to make a film that was able to be watched by kids and adults alike without killing the story. The same can be said for TV show. I want my kids to see Trek and other films that echo from our childhood, but I can't and it sucks the f*cking big one. They have reduced their audience for the sake of crappy writing/screenplay because they can't think outside the limited box they have created. The original Trek films had suspense yet only one was listed beyond PG. And few had the level of fear the trailers and shorts in this one make out.
Bring back Roddenberry.
Other than that I'm actually looking forward to seeing it. It wants to be awesome otherwise it will suck the big one. It has a huge rep to live up to.
Oh, and the new Doctors are fine, so are the old ones. They are just different.

Re: STAR TREK; Nerdy uniform... for nerds :-)
Star Trek is a reboot, a prequel and a sequel.
SPOILERS!!!!
Spock travels back from the 2380s to the 2250s - making it a sequel.
the bad guy travels back to the 2230s and changes history, creating a new timline - making it a reboot.
most of the action occurs in 2258 - making it a prequel.
Pike is in it, but there's no Joe Tyler, Boyce, Number One or Yeoman Colt. There's also no Lee Kelso, Gary Mitchell or Doctor Piper.
it seemed good when i saw it, but looking back afterwards, i realised it's actually crap.

Re: STAR TREK; Nerdy uniform... for nerds :-)
Lots of healthy debate here
but I get the idea some of you haven't seen it yet. I hope this helps;
Massive Spoiler Alert
After Star Trek - Nemesis, a Romulan ship does indeed fall through a time-warp, arriving in an era before Jim Kirk is even born. The first thing the Romulan ship does is attacks and destroys a Federation Starship. This singular event causes an alternate timeline to occur, one in which the Star Trek Universe is very similar to the one we know, but is also distinctly different.
As for Captain Pike, he isn't racing around the galaxy aboard the Enterprise in 2253 as in The Original Series. Instead, the Enterprise is completely redesigned, and her launch delayed until 2260ish. Pike is in command... and Kirk is a stowaway!
I've enjoyed my status as a Star Trek nerd since the age of 3, and I have to tell you I was worried when this film was first announced. But having seen it twice (with a third trip in the planning as soon as my buddy is back from his travels) I can honestly tell you I thoroughly enjoyed it.
As for my original intention with this thread... Kirk bangs his head on an overhead beam as per Star Trek V, and the whole "How do we know he didn't invent the thing?" issue comes up between Spock Prime and Scotty, as per Star Trek IV
Any others? One at a time please, gang.

PS. Leonard Nimoy, Majel Barrett Roddenberry, and W. Morgan Sheppard (Star Trek VI) all receive credits

Re: STAR TREK; Nerdy uniform... for nerds :-)
actually, the ship launches in 2258.
there's loads of call-backs to Real Trek:
Spock says 'I have been and always shall be your friend' to nuKirk
Sarek uses the same line about why he married Amanda as in 'Journey to Babe' -"It seemed the logical thing to do."
nuKirk's eating an apple in his Kobayashi Maru test, in TWOK Kirk was eating an apple as he discussed his test with Saavik
nuMcCoy says 'I'm a doctor not a'
nuMcCoy calls nuSpock a 'pointy-eared hobgoblin'.
nuMcCoy also asks if he's 'out of his Vulcan mind'
nuUhura orders a Cardassian sunrise in the bar
Kelvin's communicators are TOS orginals

Don't forget Admiral Archer's dog (from Enterprise), a couple of Flag Officers from The Original Series, and of course the eels... yuck!
For anyone interested in another take on the origins of the Trek crew, try these novels;
Enterprise - the First Adventure
Strangers From The Sky (which explains why Doctor Piper was aboard the Enterprise instead of Bones when the series began)
Final Frontier
Best Destiny
The Kobayashi Maru
All are wonderful (in my opinion) and are worth a look. Don't let any little continuity-glitches deprive you of a crackin' story!
Any other golden nuggets spotted in the new film? Anyone else want to have a go?

one of the shuttles was named 'Moore' presumably after Ron Moore who wrote for TNG and DS9.
there were references to starships Farragut and Hood which both appeared/mentioned in TOS.
nuKirk was getting it on with a green alien chick - a nod to the perception that Kirk 'bangs green alien chicks' even though he never did in TOS.
said green alien chick was played by Rachel 'Scarlett in GI Joe' Nichols.

Good work, Sundance... although I'm starting to think I should've waited until more people had seen the film before I posted this so that more than two people can join in
