Ebay - Overcharing on postage

I think this happens quite alot, and was interested in what you peeps think.

The amount was clearly stated in the auction, so you knew exactly what to expect. You placed a bid, thus accepting the charges. Is overcharging to this extend fair trading? I think not. Dropping a neutral is sufficient.

I agree Steve, the fees are getting silly.

I deal quite a bit with "proper" auctioneers through work and yes, a 10% hammer price is quite a normal commission, but I feel ebay are taking the piss a bit. It's not like they have to hire a venue, market the auction, pay staff etc. And to charge you for listing and then the commission is tantamount to double charging in my books. And then the Paypal fees on the money coming in too.

I fear that once my current clear out is done my selling days are through.

EvilBay fees are the reason I have not auctioned a single item for over a year now. I rather sell directly and accept a lower selling price.

i hate being over charged on postage but if you bid on an item and win you've agreed to the terms listed.
my missus sells a few things on the bay and trys to keep postage to a minimum but we only have 1 local post office and you can lterally be standing in line for the guts of an hour if its busy.
personally i add postage to the cost of an item so lower postage means i'm willing to bid more.
i have been checking ebay.com lately for a few things to finish my batman animated collection and found a varient white bat plane with a buy it now price of just over £20 but postage was £137 then customs charge on top of that. crazy world we live in.

Agreed, but i was expecting the item weight etc to actually cost £10, not £4.00. I assumed the postage price given is what its going to cost to pack and send the item. If less then a refund should be offered.

You are however right, and neutral is what i will do if i dont hear from the seller.

I can see where Steve is coming from, works out that about 25% of whatever you make tends to
go on the fees.
When I was selling I only charged the actual postage costs, 10 jiffy envelopes can be picked up for a pound in the £ shops, sourced most of my P&P supplies from there in the end.
If your selling then you should accept the selling fees, but with Ebay insisting that you offer Paypal as an option, they take another 4% from you again.
I shut the Ebay shop after they doubled the monthly fees, and selling cheaper accessories at the 99p mark was only making around 20p after fees, hardly worth the trip to the post office in the end!

I recently had this discussion with the Mrs..... I honestly believe that if the amount is stated in the listing that there is no way that you can claim that overcharging has taken place. By all means if the p&p wasn't in the listing, and you feel that you have been over charged, you should be asking for a refund, and if you do not receive a satisfactory outcome then a negative should be left.

I personally have now started putting the following into each of my listings - 'Postage & Packing to the UK is £2.50, if you are not happy paying this set amount please do not bid. I do offer reduced postage & packing on multiple items (roughly 50 pence each for second, third, fourth etc) again if you are not happy with this please do not bid' - this is taken from a carded figure that will be shipped in a box.

I have been on the receiving end of the over-priced p&p from overseas though, a couple of years back I won a large Star Wars auction (shipped in 3 large boxes) I was charged $500 which at the time I didn't know whether it was reasonable or not. When the boxes arrived the total amount paid by the seller was $220. He point blank refused to refund & started getting arsey but at the end of the day I had to walk away with my wallet a hell of a lot lighter. Thinking back I must have been a lot more easy going back then because I didn't leave him any feedback incase of him replying with a negative for me.

Eddie recently won a Joe mobile command centre on the bay - postage listed as first class recorded, it's a big item so we accepted the £20 charges. Item took over two weeks to arrive, was badly packed and cost £6 to send - BUT we had got the item for an absolute steal (in fact less than the quoted post), due in part I imagine to other bidders being put off by the high charges. So in this case it worked ok for us! However I do begrudge sellers who don't offer suitable reductions for multiple purchases - especially when it's three or four figures - they generally cost nothing more than one figure to package and post after all

Just last week i won 4 listings from one seller which totalled around 20 figures in all, i paid £10 postage thinking they would perhaps be sent by special mail, when they arrived i was disgusted to see they had been sent by 2nd class recorded at around £2.85, now i dont mind paying a pound or 2 on top of postage costs but that took the biscuit, oh and there was also a figure missing so im currently in a dispute with paypal to try and get the missing figure and the excessive postage costs back...

I am currently looking for a "Hit and run" Figure,

I found a "buy it now" on ebay for £5.99 but postage is £2.99 !

I dont mind paying £5.99 for a figure but with postage it totals nearly 9 quid !!!!

It dosnt matter how much I would like him, I refuse to pay that much postage for a single figure.

Even 2nd class recorded wouldnt cost much over a pound, plus 50p for a jiffy bag ?

so £2.99 for 2nd class !! he can F*** Right O** !
