Hasbro appiphany

Post by Chopper »

I just realised a couple of things. I might be a bit slow and everyone else here probably already mentioned it years ago. First, all the Hasbro wave 2-3 figures (Joe repaints) are vehicle drivers. I was wondering why Hunter was not Palitoy. Then it hit me. Because his vehicle was Hasbro too. Slaps head.

Secondly, I was wondering how the SAS Panther got its name. It's a homage to the Pink Panther.

Seemed pretty obvious after all the discussion of AF force names. I wonder if the Q Force vehicle names were all derived from Ship names? Hmmmmm. The rest are either Hasbro names or basic descriptions like Triad or Jeep.

Anyway, that's my thoughts for the day. ;)

The only Navy link to Swordfish is to the torpedo bomber of the same name. From reading the action man book "The Offical Dossier" one of the blokes was a Naval Officer in WW2, would guess that thas were the links to WW2 units comes from. So I would agree with you about the Panther as well.
When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

ahem.

the early US Navy submarines were all named after 'denizens of the deep'. these have included:

Stingray
Swordfish
Sealion

as well as Shark, Thresher, Narwhal, Mackeral, Trout, Tuna, Grouper, Albacore, Cod, Whale, Flounder, Sawfish, Manta, Moray, Mocassin, Hammerhead, Catfish and many more.

Both SSN 579 and SS 193 are USS Swordfish.

Good point. I tend only to think of UK and Commonwealth Forces.

I thought I recognised those names. It only hit me when I was going thru the archive and you could see all the names side by side. Maybe we need to make some customs using the other names ;) Manta, Moray and Mocassin are gone too. thats really cool.
