Action Force Artwork, Proofs, Cromalins

Post by LDR »

Being a star wars collector aswell, i have a big interest in the artwork made for the toys.

I am especially interested in cromalins, and have a few in my collection.

I know most of the star wars stuff came from ex-kenner employees, which got me thinking if anyone here has any Action Force, box/card artwork, proofs etc?

Does any of it exisit anymore? There must be a tonne of this stuff, if its not been ditched, photos, box flats, proofs, cromalins etc etc.

I would be very interested in seeing some of this stuff.

What's a cromalin? There are a few Store displays that I know of, if that helps.

I know there are vast amounts of this stuff in the sw world Lewis.

With AF, sadly there is none.

A cromalin is part of the approval check process for printing.
Typically they are run a number of times to make sure each Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black printing plate is lined up correctly before going into full print.
A proof is near to the finished article, printed on the same cardstock that the intended finished packaging will use.
Mock Up Packaging can be using proof material and the product to test and review the complete finished article, however blank mock ups can occur earlier in the process to work out the dimensions needed to house the finished toy - sometime you may see these in blank card or printed cardstock from an unrelated toyline, depending on whatever is to hand.

It is insanely popular in Star Wars collector circles, as pre-production items are highly sought after.
However, there is virtually no Palitoy Star Wars packaging material, perhaps this is because it may have been handled by Kenner in the US, but given how much stuff has survived intact, these would have surfaced in the US at some point or another.
More than likely anything that did not look like a toy was destroyed at the collapse of Palitoy, including other toylines like Action Force ..........

......... but perhaps the odd piece did get through, hidden in a box somewhere, waiting to be discovered.

Thats a real shame if it all was destroyed.

I know alot of the star wars stuff was being destroyed when the line came to an end(as it took up a huge amount of storage space), but was saved by an employee who was able to take the lot home for free. And has since made a sh*t load of money selling it.
