Acrylic CAses v's Star Cases

Post by paul463 »

We had a wee bit of a chat a week or so ago about cases whne SteveD bought some acrylic cases and also the cracking display by Paul in his Ikea cabinet. At that time I had one acrylic display case and the majority of the rest were in Star cases. I was content with this until I bought some more acrylic cases from UKgraders. Here's some photo's of the two types together. I've just bought some more cases from UK graders too, they just look so much better.

the beauty of star cases is that they're perfect for hanging on spare bits of wall, but for sure the acrylic cases look much better on a shelf

Paul, they all look great! Lovely stuff.

Out of interest, how much are the ukgraders cases and do they come in any thinner [less deep] sizes? I'm pushed for space so the thinner the better for me.

Hi Paul,

they charge £25 for 5 (plus £8 P&P). It's the only size I've seen on ebay. Must admit thinner ones would be better. Are the ones from Oscars thinner?

Thanks Paul. That's not a bad price - just over £6 quid a case.

With postage, Oscar's are around a tenner, but he'll make them whatever depth you ask him.

Still, I might have to investigate these ukgraders as they are waaay cheaper.

Cheers Paul!

Their auction has ended but they always put it back up a day later.

Got to say I do love my acrylic cases - can't wait to get them all on display. Starcases do a good job of protecting and are obviously cheaper, but the acroiv ones are fantastic. Them uk graders ones are ace value, and do look well. I needed slimmer ones for space issues. Although for my bsg figs suspect I may go with graders ones.

Although I don't do MOC on mass, the few I have are in star cases. Acrylic is a bit too brittle for me and tends to mark easily.

I was wondering about the depth of the acrylic cases. Would it be possible to display two back-to-back cards in each one?

Depth wise I think so with the UK Graders ones, but the cases hold the card backs in situe (mine have "rails" that run down the back of the case, but I know the Graders ones are slightly different with the whole back bit sliding off rather than the bottom sliding off as is the case with Oscars and AFA shop ones). With a bit of modification it may be possible though?

At £5 each I certainly think my Battlestar Gallactica figures are going to be gracing these UK Graders cases in the New Year if Santa brings me any money!
