Swordfish

Post by redrage »

Baron in the archive you say the prototype swordfish was considerably different to the final production model. Do you have any pictures of that?

Oh my god it is one ugly toy. Glad that one never made it out. Bit haphazard marketing to put something like that out there

Ulp. I don't mind that. Quite a bit going on there. What looks really cool is this.

it was more of a proof of concept, to show something in devlopment, that did not look directly like an exisiting product if that makes sense?

At the end of the day, they were touting these to toy retailers, who would see hundreds of things, not the collectors (or kids at the time). A retailer would probably think "Am I going to sell lots of that and how much money will I make from them?"

That mentality still applies today with Toys R Us, Argos and (well was) Woolworths.

You know, I actually like that Swordfish. I know it's not as cool as the one that actually got released, but you can see the clear evolution from the Diving Platform to the Swordfish. It's like their bastard lovechild. A definite series 1.5 vehicle.

That could be a topic for Jeremy Kyle;
