Here's another candidate for the weapon:

A lot of the early Joe accessories are stylised forms real life weapons, the designers probably looked @ both weapons for inspiration.

Another example would be 's weapon, which seems to combine elements from both American M60 & German MG 3 machine guns.

Carl Gustav certainly a candidate for 'bazooka'. Always felt the Red Eye a little closer... perhaps moot now.
