2011 pretty much focused on Dial-Tone in the States as he tried to uncover a Cobra plot in the state of Massachusetts. A mysterious briefcase is obtained by Cobra and transported to... Southampton, England! Anybody live there? 'Cause Cobra has a base there as of 2012!
In case you didn't know, Agent Natalie Poole (Action Man's girlfriend) had been brainwashed by the mysterious Cobra Interrogator ("Vacation in the Shadows"), and is now stationed at the HM Naval Base in Portsmouth, England. Under the orders of the Interrogator, she is able to locate and seize another briefcase Cobra wants and deserts her team.
Enter: Quarrel! Yes, the special agent from Action Force. She teams up with Footloose (who is back to being an American, for those of you who know him as an older British gentleman and Flint's 2nd-in-command in "Action Force Monthly"). Quarrel and Footloose are sent to a marshy area outside of Southampton to investigate mysterious lights in the bogs. They are joined by Jammer and Gaucho (who were last seen in "Vacation in the Shadows").
The lights are discovered to come from 6 Nano-B.A.T.s. Upon sight of Action Force and G.I. Joe, they attack. Unfortunately, the androids cannot be destroyed because their parts keep rebuilding themselves, and Footloose is told to retreat while Action Force deals with the menace as best they can. Hawk promises Action Force back-up from the Joe Team while experts in nanotechnology are flown in from Tokyo.
Footloose is sent to escort the plane, but it is shot down by Cobra over Burma. The rest of the story deals with Footloose and the other Joes rescuing the Japanese scientists, so that they can nullify the threat of the Nano-B.A.T.s in England... The story continues with the comics in 2013.
Gotta love it! Fun Publications is giving us a whole lot of Action Force (now renamed "Special Action Force"), and they're the only ones out there doing it! (Not counting Larry Hama's Red Shadows 2-part story in his comic.)
