Marvel Af recolours

Post by Malcolm Orr »

This will be a very slow project, but here's a taster of the Marvel comics recoloured.

Firstly I increased image size to 8000 wide.

Then I used the sketch>stamp filter and adjusted the settings to get black and white line art (the width etc of the lines is dependant on the size so that was why I did the huge resize).

Then I create a new layer and set it to multiply (Darken can work as well) and coloured in.

Then I replaced the sky and added the river.

To get highlights I used the dodge tool, and conversely I used the burn tool for some shadows.

To get the window glow I used a new layer and set it to overlay, then painted the yellow or white and set the opacity to taste.

I'll replace the text and the titles.

Resize image to 6000 width
Filter – sketch – stamp (light/dark balance 10, smoothness 5)
Filter – gaussian blur – 1.0
Image, resize 2000

I sourced the image from the PDF - is that the best resolution you have? By removing the colour you can get cleaner lines for recolouring, rather than directly replacing the colour. It's worked well on Shipwreck there who was black and dark turquoise (goodness knows why they chose those colours!!!)

Of course play around with the settings depending on the comic!

Nice work, I might have to give that a go.
Let me tell you, Gunner La-De-Dah Graham, the British Army can fight anything! Intimate or not!

Thanks for that, I shall have a play! Would you have any ideas about fixing the 3D pages, please?
