I guess you'd struggle with Dune then? :D

Game of thrones is excellent but last couple of books seemed to drag.
TV show is excellent, the imp steals it. Can't wait for season 2.

Lawrence watt Evans is a pretty decent fantasy writer, prob my favourite.

I saw The Hobbit yesterday in super-duper Imax 3D HFR and it was... disappointing. The HFR makes the film look like an episode of Columbo from the 1970s, everything looks cheap and like a Channel 5 TV movie. Once Bilbo meets Gollum I'd either got used to it or they'd sorted out the colour correction so it looked better for the second half of the film. But the cheap look at the start spoiled the first half of the film for me, that and almost everything was shot in close up until they reached the Misty Mountains. The action wasn't any smoother either.

There's way too much extra stuff in there that's obviously been added to stretch things to 3 movies. Most of the Radagast stuff was pointless as was Gandalf's chat with half the cast of LoTR at Rivendell. If PJ had spent more time focussing on the Dwarves and Bilbo and less time on extra back story to set up Lord of The Rings then it would have been cracking. And less time adding in extra "peril" where the Dwarves never get hurt (sliding / falling down half of Middle Earth) and cut out the whole Orc / Thorin sub-plot, totally not needed.

The Bilbo & Gollum scene was awesome and the 3D was wicked and Gandalf steals the movie for me. Oh another gripe, Bilbo never seems to be the star of the film, it's all about Thorin.

Well. Took my eyes and brain a few seconds to get the hang of 48 fps, but by god does it look real once its moving. So used to motion blur its hard to not expect it. That being said, I fucken loved it. The CGI looked much more real than LOTR, Gollum was stand out. That was the one scene I had waited to see and it paid off. The Hobbit hole is real, as is the scenery and it DOES look like that up in that area of the North Island. It look impressive to me.

I like the fact that Bilbo was but a humble Hobbit, because he was. This journey is his, but he doesn't become the wise Hobbit till a lot latter. The only thing I didn't like was the pale Orc, but I can live with that. There were a few changes from the book, and like LOTR I think they got a good balance. Radagast, the necromancer and the White council, probably not needed but great filler for Tolkein fans.
