Aye, items being stolen to order is something you associate with precious art or motor vehicles...but I guess if there's any item, one owns, of very high value it's probably wise not to advertise the fact to all and sundry.

Not least because USS Flagg's are so easy to put in 110l bin bag / bergen that you can stash under the train/bus seatThundershot wrote:Aye, items being stolen to order is something you associate with precious art or motor vehicles...but I guess if there's any item, one owns, of very high value it's probably wise not to advertise the fact to all and sundry.

Of course, there's always a risk, but I know more examples of kids being allowed by their father to play with the collection, reducing the value significantly within weeks due to loss of parts, breaking stuff, etcetera. For some reason that's never considered a risk.ODB wrote:A Star Wars collector here in the UK had his collection stolen. To make matters worse it was orchestrated by a fellow collector, this only came out after several years and some eagle eyed spotting by some of his friends. Several US collectors have had their collections stolen and several have lost a good chunk in fires. So its not that uncommon.
Sorry for me ranting on.

Spot on! Why you think I never ever post too revealing images of any of my collections?Thundershot wrote:but I guess if there's any item, one owns, of very high value it's probably wise not to advertise the fact to all and sundry.

and that is the saddening part of society that you feel you have to protect yourself against people who can't just go "WOW I'd love that in my collection it's an awesome piece, Thank you for sharing"Lady Jaye wrote:ODB wrote: Spot on! instead you are dubious about sharing as it puts you at risk from those who are unwilling to work at a collection...
Re: Appraisal for insurance purposes.....
Dubious is a wee bit too strongly put, careful I'd say. I collect for me, myself and I, not to show (off) to others.starscreams_ghost wrote:instead you are dubious about sharing as it puts you at risk from those who are unwilling to work at a collection...
Re: Appraisal for insurance purposes.....
You just haven't got anything to show off, Jaye. Admit it!

The other option is move to the other side of the world where there is close to zero interest in such things. If my collection went missing it'd be impossible to put on ebay.
I have often thought about the need to post pics, I reached the conclusion that I can get little appreciation for what I've been up to down here and its just nice to talk to like minded people. You fellers can't pop over for a BBQ and a beer so I'll post the odd pic instead. I can sit in my man cave and just marvel at the army quite happily. THe main reason I tak so long to post any pics is because I struggle not to either enjoy looking at em or play with em. BTW, is the collections section members only?
Pics aren't to justify my collection, they are purely for like minded appreciation. Some of us seem t o be better at it than others, eh T'shot?
For me, I do agree with Ljay on one point, its taken me a few years of graft and I'm now in reach of the goal. If I have to start over again it wouldn't kill me.
Here's the upshot, if it makes you happy, f*ck it. Do what you like.

Let me tell you, Gunner La-De-Dah Graham, the British Army can fight anything! Intimate or not!

Wise words Mr Chopper, wise words!
Although the "if it makes you happy f*ck it" mentality is causing our beloved BBC one or two problems at the minute thanks to one or two stars adopting the ideology in the 70s & 80's!!
