Where does it all come from?
Hi as i am fairly new to both collecting and this site i was wondering if someone could answer me something thats been puzzling me.
Where do all the carded figures come from?
By this i mean is it old shop stock or people who just never opened them at the time.I noticed the other day in one section of this forum, cant remember which one, that someone was down to selling the remaining 100 or so carded figures from which they originally had about 1500.
how did they have this many originally.Did peolple just stop suddenly buying it back in the eighties and leave shops with loads of stock they couldnt sell.Or did some shrewd people just buy up huge amounts at the time.
Sorry if this is a bit random but i'm just curious.

I'm in the mood to answer this as I've literally just got back from buying a pile of carded figures [23 infact!]. They came from a guy's outdoor lock-up and have been sat there in a box for years as unsold shop stock from a toyshop that went bust in the eighties.
The email that captainwatts referred to was from newswseller on the forum. I hope he doesn't mind me saying, but he found a huge lot of unsold toy shop figures in mid-Wales several years ago and bought up the lot. I went down to his house a few months back and saw what he had [couple of hundred figures] and it was a brilliant experience, it was like going back in time to a toy shop from when I was a kid. I loved it and went back 2 or 3 times for more figures!
So, in answer, most of the moc stuff is unsold shop stock. There's tonnes of it out there I reckon in garages and attics around Leicester!

Thanks for answering my question. Now i just wish that my parents had owned a toy shop back in the early eighties which could have gone bust, leaving me with my own Aladdins cave.
Re: Where does it all come from?
Think again... If your parents would have gone bust, the bill collectors would have taken the stock.

Yeah it's wierd how many Action Force moc figures turn up.
I remember about two years back at the NEC Memorabilia, one stand had a crate full of still carded Action Force German Soldiers, dozens of them!
I was sorely tempted to buy an armfull of them with the intention of making my own toy third reich, but common sense got the better of me.
Another time I saw dozens of AF palitoy carded Gung Ho figures at the NEC.
Very strange, I think it may be due to the British "hoarding/never throw anything away" mentality that still carries over from the war.

I wish there was plenty off lock ups full of this stuff in leicester as i would gladly drive round to find them i did have a nosy round the old palitoy factory in coalville a few months back now being used as a electrical appliance warehouse but its still the same place as in the photos as i looked into the history of palitoy two years ago at the archive library in wigston and the only figures on show at the heritage museam in coalville came from the toy museam in london when they were getting rid of excess stock i think the last main find was around crewe around a year ago the guy made a right packet on ebay and that was just from me i work in crewe unfortunatly not come across any stray boxes

Eisenblut will continue the story (it was nae him as I remember, in case you're wondering..)
Always wanted to see the pics they had on their now defunct site again. Sounds like they are back, juicing the AF for't worth.
