Hi all,
Well I joined yesterday and have been urged to say hello and give a small explanation as to who I am and what I'm doing here, so here goes!
My name's Stephen, I'm a 27 year old ireland resident, who grew up on Marvel UK comics - Spiderman and Zoids, Transformers, Action Force, AF Monthly, Combat Colin and Semi-Automatic Steve (always a classic!), Ghostbusters, Ewoks, you name it, if it was around in the 80's I most likely have at least one issue of it!
A healthy interest in Zoids and Transformers got me to this site initially, I think. I actually found it first about a year ago, looking for marvel UK comic scans. It was a delight to re-read zoids again, and as a result I ended up buying half of the red zoid army last week! See my winning auction here if you're interested: http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... SA:IT:1123
I have recently begun downloading the battle action force comics, as I only started reading action force when they went to marvel. I'll read through these and then fill in the remaining gaps in my collection.
You're helping me relive many happy memories of my childhood, and that's always a good thing!
Anyway I hope that you're all having a good day and I guess I'll be talking to ye later.
- Stephen.

Hi Stephen, welcome to the gang! That's gotta count as one of the all-time worst usernames LOL
Thanks for the praise, and for a quick appraisal of your incoming Zoids, the little red bird is a Storch and was never released in the UK, he's pretty rare, and the same goes for the red edition Zabre! I also spy Zaton and Zunder in there, who I remember having one hell of a time getting when they were released, I hunted everywhere and in the end made a special trip to Hamleys from Somerset! I have no idea who the blue and gold spiky dude is, best reference site I know of is http://www.pheno.zoids.org.uk/
Take it easy.

In response to the comment about my user name, I actually got it from Red Dwarf:
"Dave ya crazy fool, there's no need to throw your love spuds on the barbeque!"
Ooh some rare finds in my collection, cool! I just wanted to get the old 80's ones but it's cool that some of them are worth something!
As a kid my bro and I had Krark, Red Horn, Zoidzilla, terrared and aquazoid, but they are all most likely broken (and technically my brother's property!) so I decided to build from scratch!

"Smoke me a kipper... I'll be back for breakfast!" (Ace Rimmer, Red Dwarf)
Welcome aboard!
I really hope you enjoy reading the Battle Action Force stories. The early ones feature many characters you won't have seen in the Marvel version, simply because the Marvel comic was printed in the UK after Hasbro took over Action Force and introduced all new characters.
Having said that, you'll no doubt recognise a few familiar faces...!

Well I still haven't managed to read the stories at this stage, I was on hols and am now currently sick at home! But I'm sure I will enjoy them. I was aware that there was a 'battle action force' comic before the marvel one, but I never knew why or what happened, so the hasbro gi-joe merger I've read about here put one of those age-old questions of mine to rest!
The new movie that is coming out looks interesting, and will surely increase interest in the older comics again, which can only be a good thing.
I'm most looking forward to re-reading the snake eyes/storm shadow fights and the fantastic serpentor arise storyline - I remember reading that with great excitement, wondering who this new character was going to be.

Ah, I'm afraid those were the US GI Joe strips - they were reprtined as backup in the pages of Action Force and Transformers. I only have the UK material online I'm sad to say.
