Loft Clearance begins..
Re: Loft Clearance begins..
I haven't been to the Biggin Hill airshow for quite few years, since the 90s and the crash of a couple of planes (I think it was a Vampire one year and an Aircobra another) they have really toned it down.
We rarely get anything particularity interesting apart from airshow time and since Kent is quite nicely triangled by Biggin Hill, Eastbourne and Margate airshows we do get some stuff flying low under the Heathrow and Gatwick flightpaths. The last year I've seen the Battle of Britain Flight including the Lancaster at about 200 feet, an AWACS, B17, quite a few Spitifires and Hurricanes, VC10 and some other fast jets.

When confronted by a difficult problem you can solve it more easily by reducing it to the question. How would the Lone Ranger handle this?

i live a few miles from Kemble, so over father's day weekend we got buzzed by the Arras a lot and we had a Typhoon roaring around on the Saturday. we're not too far from Fairford either, so we've had a lot of stuff around for RIAT and 'on operations' - B-52s in 1991 for Desert Storm and Desert Strike, B-1s in 1999 for Allied Force and the BUFFs again before Iraq in '03.
we also get a fair few Hercs around heading in and out of Lynham and more recently a few C-17s.
some times we get a few fast-movers scream over - typically Tornados but we had Jaguars in the past...

When I was a kid I lived near Ohakea RNZAF base and used to see Strikemasters and Skyhawks all the time. It was awesome. Once I even spotted a RAAF Phantom II, VERY rare.
Now I live near Tyabb Airfield and there are 4 Harvard's and a CAC P-51d Mustang there. All of these aircraft do aerobatics and once got treated to a show in my backyard byt the Mustang.
Been to 2 shows in the last 6 months, I should put more pics on my Farcebook page I guess. Got some great pics of the Sabre and Vampire.

I've seen many vintage aircraft @ various events, but I haven't attended a full on air show for years now..

Thoroughly recommend Flying Legends to anyone who loves World War II era aircraft. I mainly used to go in the mid - late 90s and remember being stunned the first time I went at the scale of the event. Sadly, it has got a lot more crowded and expensive since then - I went a couple of years ago though at it is still well worth going along and that was with most of The Fighter Collection's fleet grounded because the powers that be were insisting all their paperwork was checked. If you're really keen, there is a flight line walk before the show so you can get really good shots of the aircraft.
When I was a kid, I lived at Orpington and so used to love the Biggin Hill airshow weekend. I often went with my Dad and friends and always used to hang around in the garden to see what was circling around.
Now being in Leicestershire I've not seen so much, but saw a Spitfire a couple of time last year and the Lancaster returning from an event in London. We did have a very low pass by the Red Arrows flying straight along the street at pretty low level one afternoon last year - that was exciting
Strangely, they also always used to fly right over my old house in Berkshire on the way to an event each summer -perhaps they're trying to send me a message!

Whenever you want to sell the Micronauts, they are more than welcome to join my army!
