War Films - Then and Now

Saving Private Ryan. The D-Day scene on the big screen was as real as can be. I spent the rest of the film in a state of shock.

Breaker Morant for sure. One of the best. Also Das Boot, Enemy at the gates, Stalingrad, Dambusters, Reach for the Sky, The Deer hunter, Dark Blue World, Bridges of Toko Ri, FMJ, Twelve O'clock high, Brotherhood (aka Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo) to name a few.

I just finished watching Band of Brothers and The Pacific. They blew Private Ryan out of the water IMHO.

I have pretty big collection of DVD's, I only buy the good stuff tho so I'll have a gander tonight.

I often used to think how they don't make em like they used to with all star casts then we got Saving Private Ryan, Flags of our Fathers / Letters from Iwo Jima, Enemy At The Gates and now we've got Inglorious Basterds and The Expendables. Good times.

How could I have forgotten Ice Cold in Alex?! Brilliant film.

BOB was an awesome film for sure, also on my shelf, Red Dawn, The Day After, the Great Escape, All quiet on the Western front (1930 version), Good morning Vietnam, The Virgin soldiers, The big red one and the Odd angry shot.

Other ones I like are Wild Geese I, Too Late the Hero, Black Hawk Down,Good Morning Vietnam. Dogs of War and Guns of Navarone

i like BHD too, and FMJ, WED and one day i WILL watch the Cockleshell Heroes and Heroes of Telemark.

Indeed, how could that one get forgotten. An excellent film and I think Chopper mentioned Dark Blue World, which was excellent.
