SCORE!!! sorta

Post by Chopper »

Well its not that exciting but its more than I usually get. I picked up a 1/18 green Kawasaki Ninja for $1.20 at the supermarket and a MOC ROC Shana Scarlet O'Hara for 23c at K-mart. Never got that kinda bargain before. Found the figure under the racks, last one in the store.

So now I have 2 MOC ROC's for which to tease Eddie with.

Why, you little tease, you...

& :. , Just to windup Eddie a little bit more, I purchased a vintage Imp' Storm-trooper for a quid @ a car boot sale last Sunday...said figure is sitting in a jar of peroxide as we speak, & bubbling away nicely :-D

Nice work, Mark. 23c must be the bargain of the year.

How long do you leave them in there? And what % is the peroxide?

I'm using 14% volume (the strongest I could find) with a tiny amount of that oxy stain remover stuff mixed in but, due to poor weather conditions @ the moment, it's a slow process..this particular figure was very clean & white, apart from a pink felt tip pen stain on the back of his leg, which after a weeks submersion is slowly but surely fading.

I've had success with about 5 Stormtroopers so far, during last months bright sunny warm spell, it took about a week to remove the (admittedly slight) yellowing..I think Chopper's experiment took a fraction of that time thanks to his geographic location.

The poorest result so far, is a a figure who had dark (almost pink) limbs, the process has worked to a great extent, he's far cleaner & fresher looking, but after about 3 weeks he still has a noticeable pink hue, I'm putting this down to unstable plastic used in manufacture.
Pink limbs variant?

I've only tried this with Stormtroopers so far, nothing with sticky labels or other strong colours & can report no serious damage to the black painted on details, or comment on any long term bad effects to the figure.
The peroxide cost less than £5 from Sally hair supplies, must admit I did feel a bit embarrassed trying to explain what I needed it for to the nice (& very helpful) lady shop assistant , but @ the end of the day I'm now the proud owner of 6 minty white Star Wars figures :-D

S'OK mate. Cheers guys, tis a small victory.

As fer the peroxide, it was 30 degree's plus when I did it. I also did a VAM white Garrand 2 weeks ago. Its mid winter here and it took 3 days, probably could have done it a day or 2 more but it came up well. To speed up the operation stick the container under a fluro light. It should be quicker.
