One has a (for lack a better description) a smooth bottom, the other a pocket & "Made in Hong Kong TM" moulded onto it.

I have no idea if one variants rarer than the other..

I've just looked at 5 of mine and they are all non-smooth.

As far as I'm aware the American versions weren't marked so you do have a variant of sorts,

Check the inner thigh of the smooth bum guy and see if he has a date stamp there, T'shot. I'll check mine tonight, tho I'd imagine Gavin will be the man in the know ;-)

Hi guy's..
Thanks Eddie I can't remember which is which, but one of 'em I found loose @ a car boot sale (which took me years & a very lucky find to 100% complete) the other purchased on e-bay loose, complete with a very nice G.I.Joe backing card, so I was assuming one's a Palitoy euro release t'others a Hasbro.

Weather or not that's a false assumption or not I'd be interested to find out, I had a sneak peek @ over on the Yo Joe archives, but they don't seem to mention any variant :firefly: details :-(

well it is a euro variant to a degree, the made in tag was removed from the american figures but the european releases kept theirs, it was due to factory location at the time.

Which is which, Eddie? Just looked up Fireflys date. Mine is tagged made in HK and has a date stamp on his left inner thigh. He was a Yank import.

I suspect lots of differences like this stem back to the 80's import rules we had where stuff had to show where it was made. I'm guessing the US didn't have the rules.

The 'made' in bit a could understand, apart from giving him a place to keep his wallet, why the addition of a pocket?
