Why I remember Sept. 11th.

Sept. 10th: I was really excited on that Sept. 10th. I made a special trip to the comic shop because that day was a very special day. It was the date that "G.I. Joe: Reinstated" came out! Duke was back! :duke: Roadblock was back! :roadblock: Snake Eyes was back! Scarlett was back! :scarlett: Cobra Commander was back! :cobracommander: Baroness was back! :baroness: "Destro" was back! :destro: (Actually, it turned out to be his son, but his appearance came quickly after!) Major Bludd was back! :bludd: (C'mon! I know that you "Battle Action Force" lovers know these guys!) After a 7 year hiatus, something that I thought was "really good, but really dead"... was back! And it rocked! The heroes (and villians) of my youth had returned! It was truly a day of rebirth!

Sept. 11th: I turned on the radio and hear the anger and unbelief of a New York radio broadcaster as he reports the carnage of the first hi-jacked plane that had already struck the first tower. "I'm going to be sick!" he said, over and over. I was able to view the second strike on T.V. Unbelievable! Terrorism had come to my country! 4 planes changed everything... and 4 planes changed nothing...

I realized later, only later, just how much the B.A.F. writers had pegged the heart of a fanatical terrorist.

Do I hate these people? No. What a sad, little religion that needs a "god" who desires the destruction of innocent women and children. The day that they touched the innocents, was the day that their "cause" stood damned before all of Creation.

Thank God that there will always be someone to write of the ideal of the heroic...

Thank God that there is a "Duke" out there, somewhere... :duke: A "Roadblock"... :roadblock: A "Snake Eyes"... A "Scarlett"... :scarlett: ... just waiting to tell the madmen of the world, "ENOUGH!"

The one thing l recall of 3 years ago was the total disbelief.

To see it also play out in front of myself & friends here was a shock we never thought would happen.

To the US & other Nationals (inc Brits) killed that day & there loved ones left not knowing why,my thoughts & sympathys still go out to you all.

I was shocked that in the UK there is no tribute to those innocents who lost there life on TV. Some may say that`s a good thing, though as TV brought the story to our homes l think the TV needs to be a soother of sorts & to remind us all too.

To the US l feel your sorrow & know that there ARE other Nations that will always be side by side with you.

I was really looking forward to that day too. Get this, Dream Theater were due to release their "Live Scenes From New York" album, the sleeve of which had their burning heart logo transformed into a burning apple, topped with the Statue Of Liberty and WTC. Spooky as hell.

It's a lot like the Challenger Space Shuttle explosion (sorry to keep bringing up American tragedies... I know that every nation has its share of suffering)... whenever I read a G.I. Joe / Battle Action Force story that has their shuttle craft in it, my mind instantly makes a connection between the two. It makes the heros' trips into space a little more intense, because the true spectre of death that exsits in reality now that the Space Age is a fact. :?

I didn't actually have a chance to read the first issue until several days after the Towers got hit. The return of the Real American Heroes combating a terrorist leader on US soil read really relevantly, and left a very sour feeling in my chest. The whole thing was creepy, and I almost didn't want to read the new series anymore, even after years of anticipation.

Why does it always take a terrorist act to create a top rate comic book and characters. The embassy seige in the 80's and 911. Both these events were instrumental in the rise of Action Force/GI joe.

Just a thought :eagle2:
